Jog my memory: Female R&B Singer/Bass Player fairly recent debut

Sometime in the past year, I looked up a song that I had been hearing semi-frequently (maybe on a T.V. commercial?). It was an R&B/Soul kind of a song. I read up on the singer and found out she was also the songwriter. I found out she also plays bass and I watched a few videos on YouTube.

I liked her but I didn’t follow up right away and now I can’t remember her name or her songs.

She’s relatively recent. I feel like she debuted in the past 10 years, maybe as recently as within the past 5 years. Anybody have any idea who I’m thinking of?

O.K., I fugured it out already: Esperanza Spalding

Her first record came out in 2006. More Jazz than R&B/Soul, but she’s definitely who I was thinking of.
