John Bardine

Anybody know what he did that was so special? About all I know is that he is an electrical engineer and he has won a Nobel Prize, but that’s not what is really interesting about him. I haven’t been able to find anything on the net either.

Andrew

Bardeen, along with William Shockley and Walter Brattain got the Nobel for inventing the point contact transistor.

From Britannica"The invention of the transistor in 1947 by John Bardeen, Walter H. Brattain, and William B. Shockley of the Bell research staff provided the first of a series of new devices with remarkable potential for expanding the utility of electronic equipment."

He won the Noble Prize for the co-invention of the bipolar junction transistor, and again for work on superconductivity. One of the rare few to win two Nobel Prizes. I’d call that specail.
