So here we are again with the latest bout of these clowns kicking each others shins. Obama wants to address congress on the date of some long planned Republican candidate debates and Boehner rejects the request. It is my understanding that this is the first time this has ever happened in the in the history of our republic.
So Obama caves and will now address congress on the opening day of the NFL season.
Not a partisan pitting. Just me so fucking tired of the BS and games. It is as clear as clear can be that the Republicans are going to block anything that this president tries to to no matter what and it is equally clear that Obama pretty much has no balls and no real ideas on how to put people back to work.
As I see it Rome is burning and all of the people that are supposed to be public servants are fiddling away.
Reading comprehension is not your strong suit, is it.
I am pitting the fact that Obama was trying to pull an obvious and ham-handed move to overshadow the Republican debates.
I am also pitting the Republicans for denying the request to address both houses of Congress for the first time in the history of the freaking Republic. This, just like the fucking debt ceiling has historically been a routine request.
Most of all I am pitting the fact that no one on either side of the isle seems to give a shit about the people that they are supposed to serve,
None of which detracts from the fact that you are an idiot.
A very well written pitting if I don’t say so myself. I am deeply dissapointed in our government, though I am still young (only 25), I am quickly losing my optimism. When the hell is Obama going to stop giving speeches and actually put out some GREAT legislation on tax reform, job creation, etc. It’s sad to see that republicans are the only ones actually trying to do anything, with Obama just standing around to pontificate endlessly on why the republicans are wrong. He has turned into the president of no, when the republicans used to be the party of no.
BTW, I am a left-leaning independent, who voted a straight democratic ticket in 2008, and mostly dems in 2010 and 2004. But I am sorely dissapointed in Obama and the democrats. They simply aren’t standing up enough for what we elected them to do, and republicans are reaping the benefits. I’m seriously considering a straight republican ticket in 2012 as a protest/punishment vote, so that hopefully the dems will grow some balls.
The President requests a joint session of Congress, the Speaker respectfully accepts. That’s the theory. Obama has no power to insist, short of bringing in the black helicopters full of powder-blue UN troops.
The request for a joint session is shorthand for “This is a Big Hairy Ass Deal! Fucking important!” Which is why he asked for the first day that Congress returns. Because its a big hairy ass deal.
And Boner fucked up. The guys on that debating platform want Obama’s speech to go first, so they can daub themselves with shit and set their hair on fire screaming about socialism. Now, they gotta talk about what they think he’s gonna say, not what he said. Dumbass Boner!
I’m not fan of Boehner, but I’m wondering if he deserves to be swatted over this. Sure, it’s the first time (supposedly) that such a request was denied, but was there ever a time when a request was made like this-- ie, interfering with a long-scheduled presidential primary debate? If not, then shame on Obama for not being willing to wait one day.
Not that many people are going to watch this anyway, I think. I suspect a lot of platitudes, or if there is anything of substance, the GOP will resist it. Come on, Obama. You’re almost 3 years into your presidency, and suddenly you have a “jobs plan”? Too bad one of your pet projects from the last go around just filed for bankruptcy and laid off a bunch of people.
And it doesn’t help that the president of Solyndra was a fund raiser for the Obama campaign (not noted in that cite, but it was in the SJ Merc today).
I don’t know what they have to say,
It makes no difference anyway –
Whatever it is, I’m against it!
No matter what it is or who commenced it,
I’m against it.
Your proposition may be good
But let’s have one thing understood –
Whatever it is, I’m against it!
And even when you’ve changed it or condensed it,
I’m against it.
Then, perhaps, writing for clarity isn’t yours? Where in your OP do you say anything about Obama trying to overshadow debates?
And, logic isn’t your friend either. If it is true that Obama did know when these debates were scheduled and if it is true that he purposely asked to address Congress then for whatever reason, you are now pitting the Republicans for not wanting to reschedule, just because such an address has never been turned down before? You are acting as if this is something other than more political hot air here.
Hardly. At best, this would be RO because something was rescheduled, but you are making it into Nero fiddling while Rome burned. Unless things have changed since today’s LA Times came out, the address was changed to the next freaking day, because the Republicans had televised debates planned.
If anyone should be pitted, it would be Obama, if he knew about the debates prior to asking to address on that day (I think he did, but that isn’t your rant). But since this board is so leftist, it would be unsafe for you to do that, right?
I’m really quite new to this board… but after having been here a few days, I would hardly call this a “leftist” board. There are plenty of conservative and mixed opinions I’ve read here…
Adressing a joint session of congress is NOT going to do anything, politically or practically, and OBAMA should know this. He is a fucking idiot and if he gets up on national television again without proposing some VERY specific solutions to our problems, I am going to vote against him in 2012. I’d rather throw my vote toward a flametarded Bachmann or Perry than have to listen to Obama’s meaningless platitudes anymore.
Does this mean nobody had the will or means to check on and clear the grounds for a formal proposal beforehand? Nobody had the gumption to place a simple phone call saying “Hey, we’re thinkin’ of doing this, cool with you guys?” “Sure, works for us.” “Cool beans, see ya there.”
Maybe the White House and Speaker’s office need some informal little ‘Hot Line’ installed for just such situations. Hell, it doesn’t even have to be a red phone. Let’s make this foolproof, just give 'em some string and a couple of dixie cups. Even they can’t fuck that up.
Shouldn’t addressing unemployment actually be prioritized over some intra-party tard fight? One of those things is actually their job, the other is not.
What’s more important? The sitting President of the United States addressing congress and the nation on one of the most prominent and potentially disastorous issue of the day, or the obstructionist wannabe’s after his job going on and on about how the sitting president sucks?
You think if Bush had requested a joint session of Congress on the evening of a Democratic debate he would have given two wet shits about it? And well he shouldn’t have.
It’s not Obama’s job to make sure that the Republicans aren’t distracted while they’re busy campaigning.
I am pretty sure that the Executive Branch knew all too well that this would overshadow the candidate debates and that this was a deliberate political move. That being said, this does not take away from the fact that the Republicans have been obstructionist to this administration to a degree that has never been seen. Hence the dual pitting.
I think someone in Obama’s admin blew it. They should have checked the schedules before setting up the speech. The next day is better for all and not a huge imposition for Obama.
Now the Repubs have a rallying point for their debates.
“Overshadow”? Shitfire, son, *Desperate Housewives of Akron *would “overshadow” those debates! Who’s carrying it, CNN? And the Obama people swear they advised Boner privately about their plans, which he has not denied. If he had some sort of problem, might he not have brought it forward sooner?
Strike that. Faulty memory. Not the president, but a “key Solyndra investor”. That’s a bit vague, and not something I see as being as a big a deal if it had been the company’s president.
