The mental gymnastics that you are engaging in to deny the fact that you are either not reading or reading and completely not getting it are, actually, rather impressive. I would say that I am done with you at this point, but you would predictably use that as a platform to claim that you had “won” the debate.
So I will simply state that with each post you show more and more that you are sadly limited and intellectually dishonest. On a more broad level I will also note that your regrettable lack of any sort of rigor is rather consistent with the general state of affairs in this county. I will also conclude by urging you to try to join the reality based community.
You don’t get it do you? There is no “debate” here because you aren’t debating. You haven’t backed up your original points with any proof, and all you are doing now is hiding behind the usual weak minded response of throwing insults around. It is you that is showing what the general state of affairs are in this country - belief in sound bites put out by bias reporters, then shit flinging when things don’t go your way.
I am off to the dentist, where I am quite sure that getting a crown put on will provide me with more intellectual stimulation that what I am getting from your posts… :smack:
Your hatred is completely misplaced. drewtwo99 is (a) young [relatively], (b) intelligent, and (c) a likely voter. He is the future. You and your party should be doing your damnedest to reach him, not calling him names and pushing him aside.
Obama looks weak. drewtwo99 is crying out for leadership. Not authoritarianism, but not empty inspirational campaign speeches, either.
I voted with my feet, and if you don’t want the best and the brightest to follow me as the USA sets a course for the new Dark Ages by way of the third world, you’ve got to offer something. The OP is right—this is transparently political gamesmanship, and the Republicans are calling the tune. Obama is reactive. Sometimes he’s right and sometimes he’s wrong; sometimes he scores a point. But he’s not leading.
All you’re offering is fear: OMG! Perry / Bachmann / Romney / Palin / everyone would be so much worse, you have to support Obama! But that’s a false dichotomy. He doesn’t have to. He can demand better, and he should. It’s astounding that with 300 million people, America can’t find better to offer (on either side).
Oh, and curlcoat, if brains were toast, you’d have half a stale and moldy crouton in your head.
Sure it can. A protest vote for Nader in 2000 got us George Bush, 2 wars, and a economy flushed down the toilet. Just think of the power of a Bachmann protest vote.
To everyone who hates me, I just want to say that I respect your differences, support your vote, and in no way do I think that you are misguided. I don’t see why there’s so much reason to hate a person for a minor political difference. Yes the republicans are all terrible (even huntsman is a lunatic fringe conservative in my opinion), and yes Obama hasn’t done a lot of terrible things to the country. But he has wasted so much opportunity it’s depressing. I’m not saying I WON’T vote for Obama this time around, but it’s looking very likely that I won’t, unless I start getting very specific stuff from him rather than just political gamesmanship, which he EXPLICITLY campaigned against. He is a hypocrite of the highest order. At least when Perry becomes president he’ll actually try to do all the stuff he’s saying he’ll try to do. Obama is a liar.
It was a joke, but I guess it went over your head. Since you want to crank it up a notch, here’s my take: Anyone on Obama’s team who who would “assume” anything about the GOP is an idiot, and should be fired. You can prance that pony out here all day if you want, but I’m not buying it. We sent a note, and they didn’t respond, so we “assumed” it was OK. Yeah, right.
Now, I don’t know if Obama and his folks knew about the GOP debate or not. But they should have. And anyone with more than 5 minutes experience with DC politics should have known there would be an objection.
So, no, I’m not buying the whole idea that Obama’s folks are pure and innocent on this matter. They set themselves up for a fall (if you want to call this little contretemps a fall) and the GOP obliged them. Too bad for them. Obama is going to spend a lot time selling this plan to the American people, and he better be planning a whole lot of more speeches and town hall meetings or whatever if he wants to be successful. I’m naturally cynical of anything like this coming out of Washington, and I think a lot of other Americans are, too. If it’s so urgent that we know what this shit is, put it out on the WH web site so we can all see it. No need to grandstand in front of Congress on my part.
How do you expect Obama to GET THINGS DONE? Take a Civics class. He needs some cooperation from Congress. He’ll never get it. The Teabaggers refuse to play.
A protest vote is a waste and potentially damaging. How great is it to GET THINGS DONE if they’re the wrong thing?
In re-reading your posts here and in other threads it seems that I might owe you an apology. It is pretty clear that you are suffering from some sort of a mental disorder or impaired cognitive ability and I think that I should be more understanding of the brave struggle that you must face every day.
I hope that I can be more tolerant and understanding in the future but for now please accept my apologies for not being more considerate of your limitations.
Presidents who got things done did so by twisting arms, breaking rules, stacking the supreme court in their favor, blackmail, using arcane senate/house procedures (reconciliation), etc. Obama is far too polite to push for any of that it seems, so instead he just gives speech after speech which amounts to grand dick waving. I was SO excited in 2008 for Obama’s amazing victory. And for a couple years I was willling to give him the benefit of the doubt. I don’t expect him to come around and miraculously solve all of our problems that the Bush, Clinton and Reagan admins caused… but he’s not even trying. Time after time he says, “I’m going to fight for A” and then after a few weeks he completely and utterly reverses direction. I’d rather vote for someone who faught for what they believed in over and over, whether or not they are policies I strongly support.
Well, Obama did get the ACA passed by turning to reconciliation to move it through the Senate. There was a lot of deal cutting and arm twisting involved to repeal DADT and get START II ratified. Likewise the stimulus.
Man, this cake I bought was slightly smaller than I expected. I guess next time I’ll buy that cow bladder full of broken glass and dog turd - that will show those bastards my feelings on substandard desserts!
GUY ONE
Guy Three, I will give you a piece of cake.
GUY TWO
Nah. Guy Three, I’m’a punch you in the groin.
GUY THREE
I don’t want to be punched in the groin. I’ll hang out with Guy One.
Two hours pass.
GUY THREE
Hey, Guy One, where’s my cake?
GUY ONE
Still working on the cake. But I will definitely not punch you in the groin.
GUY TWO
Hey, I’m still over here! And if you come over here, I’m’a definitely going to punch you in the groin. Repeatedly. Look, I bought brass knuckles! Check out all these people who decided to hang out with me yesterday, all with punched groins. Come on over!
GUY THREE
Screw you, Guy One. Guy Two’s gonna punch me in the groin, but at least he has the decency to follow up on what he promises.
The only outcome here would be the Democrats caving more and more. The natural assumption is that the people are voting for the side they want, the policies they believe in, (i.e. Republican policies, if you vote for a Republican). So…yeah…
I don’t understand your thought process.
I mean, let’s say I’m in a prison.
One prison guard campaigns on ass raping. And, when elected, believe me, he gets it done.
The other guard campaigns on no ass raping. And, when elected, he’s a wuss, but he makes the other guy wear a condom and use lube.
Now, I’m not liking the situation, but there is no way in hell I’m voting for the first guy as a ‘protest’ on the second guy.
Edit: Too late! Storyteller beat me to it and did a better job at that!
But some of you, at least, must know that this is not an outlier position held by a couple of people. Look at the polls where people who voted for Obama in 2008 are asked if they’ll vote for him again. drewtwo99 is not articulating a position unique to himself.
But one thing’s for sure. Call him a few more names – that will definitely get him to change his mind.
