Oh please. If it wasn’t Planned Parenthood, it would be something else.
The [AP News story has some choice quotes:

My favorite is the one from Rep. Massie, about how Rep. Boehner “subverted our Republic”; that’s priceless! I wish I could find the whole quote; I’ll bet what didn’t get printed only enhances it.
If you think that’s funny/sick, check out the Twitter twitter.
Another mind-reader of Democrats! Who knew how many conservative psychics we had on this board?
Got an inkling, here, and that’s all it is, but there’s something else here we haven’t seen yet. Dunno. Not my two cents worth, maybe just one.
There’s rumors that Kevin McCarthy is the leading candidate to succeed Boehner. He isn’t the kind of guy that a Rep. Thomas “Boehner subverted our democracy” Massie would particularly like.
Quite an interesting article in the WaPo about the night before Boehner announced his retirement:
The ‘simple request’ that the article is talking about seems to be something this Pope is very much in the habit of doing, but it’s effect on Speaker Boehner seemingly was quite powerful. Though, interestingly, I didn’t know there already were rumors that he was thinking of retirement.
No, I don’t think you really are. You’re comparing his performance to what you think is possible, without considering that your idea of what is possible today is derived from what has actually happened today.
There are many other periods in history, and many other Speakers specifically, and many other politicians even today, available for comparison. There have been many historical outbreaks of hyperpartisanship, too. But in few or none of them will you see results as poor as this House has produced under Boehner’s leadership. Shit, just look at the count of bills passed, if you insist on ignoring the lack of a budget. You can blame the House instead of its leadership if you like, but you can’t claim the leadership has been good if the leadership has not created followership.
No, it’s just the basic job requirement. Actually addressing problems, preparing for the future, making the country stronger and fairer etc. is not irrelevant, except to a certain faction which insists their basic job requirement is to prevent the government from running.
If that meant being part of the governing Coalition of the Sane instead of being frozen out, yes, I think so.
A coalition of the sane would be good. “Good” in the same sense that an atom bomb is “loud”.
Boehner speaking now:

He sounds more reasonable now than I’ve ever heard before, and he definitely seems loose, like a weight has been lifted off his shoulders. Thanks for posting that, Donald.
From the Ohio Revised Code:
3521.03 Filling vacancy in United State House of Representatives.
*When a vacancy in the office of representative to congress occurs, the governor, upon satisfactory information thereof, shall issue a writ of election directing that a special election be held to fill such vacancy in the territory entitled to fill it on a day specified in the writ. Such writ shall be directed to the board of elections within such territory which shall give notice of the time and places of holding such election as provided in section 3501.03 of the Revised Code. Such election shall be held and conducted and returns thereof made as in case of a regular state election. The state shall pay all costs of any special election held under this section. *
(3501.03 says that there must be at least 10 days’ notice before the election takes place.)
There does not appear to be a provision for the governor appointing someone to fill the seat in the meantime.
He doesn’t have to. Boehner’s resignation isn’t effective until 10/30, so there’s no point.
I saw him on TV last night and was thinking something was going with him ,
he didn’t seem to be all there.
HAHAHA!! That’s ridiculous.
Yes. They are not necessarily in every place in the state. It’s mostly school board and other local elections or ballot measures. This year we do have two state-wide ballot measures–fracking and marijuana.
That’s too late to get the seat on the ballot for November 3rd. I don’t know if they’ll have to have a primary. The Republican infighting for such a safe seat might be intense.
Presumably today isn’t too late, though.
The governor has to wait until there’s a vacancy. As long as Boehner still holds the seat, it’s not vacant. Yes, I know it would be sensible to go ahead and set it up now, but it can’t be done legally.
