John Denver Karaoke Sparks Thai Killing Spree

Story here.

The link is to *The Telegraph * in England, but it’s been in the news a lot here, too. Could conceivably be considered justifiable homicide, I guess. “Country Roads” is still an extremely popular song at drunken get-togethers in Thailand. Really.

That’s the area that Mrs Shibb is from. She and my daughter will be travelling down there this summer.

Tell them maybe not to sing John Denver.

Weenus Chumkamnerd.

**Weenus Chumkamnerd. **

If that was my name, I’d go on a killing rampage too.

I guess Sunshine on My Shoulders made him angry.

Well, yeah. What else?

I sympathize. I’d sympathize more if it’d been Celine Dion, though.

If it’d been Celine Dion who’d been shot, you mean?

Memo to self: In the unlikely event of an invitation to a drunken get-together in Thailand, decline.

Well – they’ve all been taken home, to the place they belong.

“Mr Chumkamnerd, who works as a rubber tapper…”

That’s the greatest news story of all time. Ever. It has all the elements. I’ve never laughed so hard at 8 people getting tragically slain.

Can we get a picture of Mr Chumkamnerd? For some reason I’m picturing him looking like Uncle Duke…

His photo was in the news here, but the local newspapers don’t include photos on their websites. Looked rather normal. Just goes to show you the dark evil power of John Denver.

Would that be because you might have to sing “Country Roads” or because of the possibility of getting shot for doing so?

Eh, it’s only March.

Neither. It would be because of the possibility of being forced to listen to drunken Thais singing Country Roads!

That is so racist! Drunk or sober, Thai or American, listening to ANY group of people singing Country Roads is as legitimate a reason as any for a killing spree. :stuck_out_tongue:

Wow, I didn’t realize how close I came to buying it when I sang Country Roads in a bar in Dundalk, Ireland in 1976 (unaccompanied and a capella)!

Well - there you go. Weenus did everything he could to prevent this from happening.
