lekatt, I think you have somehow gotten the idea that science is opposed to spirituality. It is not. Plenty of scientists believe in God. Plenty of them believe in life after death.
Scientists are not just wrecklessly trying to discredit spiritual ideas, most of them would LOVE to be able to verify conclusively paranormal ability, or life after death, or the existence of ghosts. It would be the greatest scientific breakthrough in history if they could. They would be world famous, win the Nobel prize, and enter the scientific pantheon with the likes of Newton, Galileo, Darwin and Einstein. It would be the greatest thing which could happen to a scientist’s career if he or she could prove, unambiguously, a supernatural influence on the world.
The failure to find these things is more often met with disappointment than glee, but the results are accepted because science wants to KNOW, not BELIEVE what is true. The best way to find what is true is to eliminate what is not true. This is the essence of scientific method, to hypothesize, test and chip away what is false until we shrink the parameters of what IS true into a useful and predictable commodity.
Science, per se, does not have an opinion on the existence of God, or a soul, or an afterlife (although individual scientists obviously do) because there is no way to test for these things to verify or falsify them. I don’t think that anyone in this thread would state, categorically, that life after death is impossible, only that we have no evidence for it. (NDE’S are subjective personal experiences and, as yet, it cannot be proven that they are anything more than natural, abeit intense, brain activity).
We also do not have any evidence that life after death is not possible, but asserting that the human body contains some sort of invisible, undetectable, surviving conscious spirit is so extraordinary on its face that it requires extraordinary evidence to support it. Thus far we have seen none, but that doesn’t mean we won’t.
Thanks. To tell you the truth, their is a lot more on your website than I would’ve guessed-which is a good thing, btw.
I agree with Diogenes the Cynic , who makes a fantastic point about science. I think his paragraphs 3 and 4 are right on the money and should be something you should think about.
On a personal note, I do think their is evidence that further research should be done in regards to NDE’s. I don’t think science, currently, has the instruments to accurately study NDE’s, but will one day. I have good faith in Mankind’s ability to solve the questions of the Universe.
As far as psychic’s go, I don’t believe they are legit. I would love to be proven wrong, but judging from what I have read and witnessed I’d have to say that it seems very unlikely that it is possible. Also, I would like you to be aware that this is a 180 degree change from what I used to believe ten years ago.
Because I don’t Edward’s “abilities” are legit, I question the man’s morals. IF he is legit, why aren’t his readings clear? That’s just one of a bunch of other questions I have for Edwards.
Taking away the requirement of “proving” Edwards to be legitiment, I did have a question for you Lekatt (and anyone else). Let’s assume that Edwards is on the money:
*Do you think what he is doing is right? I ask this because I don’t. Assuming he is legit for a moment; I don’t think it’s right of him to charge a fee for what he does, after all, there is such a small majority of people (I’m assuming under .1%) who claim to speak to the dead. I know he has the right to make a living and all, but doesn’t the idea of him withholding important information from a family, strike you as a little wrong?
*I say this because not everyone can afford to go on his show, pay for private screenings, etc.
**Also, I could be totally wrong in some of my assumptions, such as Edwards working his way up to prime-time tv. I freely admit, I don’t know much about him, I’m just assuming he did “seance’s” and the like, before he landed a network deal-so correct me if I’m wrong.
I can’t tell you if John is a good psychic or not. I have never had a reading from him. He did “work his way up” to where he is now. A person usually can’t do that unless he is somewhat accurate.
It is really useless to post opposing views on this board, so I will leave it at that.
