I don’t like his attempt to appear blue-collar while coming from an entirely white-collar affluent background himself. As far as I know he never worked a day in a trade or labor job. It feels like cosplay.
And even still, it’s possible to look like a working man and still be smartly-dressed. A Woolrich flannel under a denim workshirt would look a lot more dignified than the sloppy hoodies and shorts this guy is attired in.
His appearance might seem like a secondary element in all this but it’s undeniably part of his image, which helped him get elected, and lately it’s looking like his image is all he’s got.
Yeah, he’s fake. Being folksy-fake as the mayor of Braddock, PA, is whatever, but dude is mistaken if he thinks that that “brand” is so outstanding and important that he needs to drag it into the US Senate. Get over yourself and wear a suit like everybody else!
Exactly. It’s like another flavor of trolling in Troll Nation.
And it’s not as though it’s fun or he seems cool but fake. He’s just rather disheveled and unpleasant overall.
I have no dog in this hunt, but I ran across this counter argument for what it is worth-
Fortunately, I was an Ohioan then and now, and was thus saved from making the mistake of attempting to thwart what has come to be one of the Senate’s more compelling voices.
And if the same election were to be held today, I’d throw all the support I could muster behind John Fetterman
Okay, I’ve changed my mind, if he’s hanging out with Steve Bannon and in favor of the lawless ICE thugs. Now I think it’s better than 50-50 that he’s gonna turn MAGA.
Ok it appears The Hill updated the article. I swear it initially said he had dinner with Bannon. Now it says, “Fetterman dined that night with Matt Boyle, the Washington bureau chief for Breitbart, according to Politico’s Playbook, which first reported the interaction. He did not have dinner with Bannon.”
The article also claims he ran into Bannon at the restaurant and chatted for about 20 minutes.
Wanted to clarify these points before anyone comes in and says I was incorrect about the dinner with Bannon thing.
So, this is not as bad as having dinner with him. If you just run into someone and have a pleasant conversation, that doesn’t seem as bad as deliberately deciding to have a dinner with someone.
On the other hand, he shouldn’t be associating with Bannon like this anyway. He should politely excuse himself at the least. And Breitbart is a far-right publication, with racist, xenophobic, and misogynist content. I don’t know that having dinner with the political editor from that publication is any better than dinner with Bannon. It seems like it’s just as bad to me, if not worse.
He’s basically MAGA in a grubby homeless sheep’s clothing at this point.
I bet 2 quatloos to 1 that Fetterman will not join the Republican Party within the next 4 years. Swing state positioning doesn’t bother me, nor does supporting, “a controversial law requiring the detention of undocumented immigrants accused of theft, burglary, or shoplifting.” Wake me up when he actually causes problems for the Democratic leadership. I’d give steeper odds, but I don’t know enough about neuroscience. (I do oppose that piece of legislation, but I cut slack to politicians from difficult jurisdictions.)
High staff turnover is more troubling. I think he needs to step aside. From filmore’s Inquirer link:
“It’s pretty impossible to overstate how disengaged he is,” a recently departed staffer told The Inquirer last month. “He doesn’t read memos, he’s taking very few meetings … the job is just a platform for him to run for president, that’s all he cares about.”
