On my trip to the south a couple of weeks ago (35+ hours in the car), Slow Turning was in regular rotation. I’ve always like John Hiatt pretty but, for some reason, that’s the only CD I have of his. I think I’ll get a couple more. He gets pretty regular play on the radio station I listen to but they don’t play any album cuts. What should I get first? Maybe one with and one without a band?
Liked John Hiatt pretty well, that is.
I ain’t any Hiatt afficionado, but Perfectly Good Guitar has some good songs on it. “Memphis in the Meantime” is a favorite of mine. I understand that Bring the Family is pretty strong, too.
Guy’s a great songwriter.
I love, love Bring the Family. It has Memphis in the Meantime, Thing Called Love, but Most Importantly, Have a Little Faith in Me. A great song when anyone sings it, but damn does he do it well. And now I gotta go play it. Excuse me.

I will third Bring the Family. Get it!
I quite like “Little Head”
I like Perfectly Good Guitar and Walk On. The opening song on the latter, “Cry Love,” is a barnburner.
Hiatt’s great fun live, too. Keep your eyes open for a tour.
Also, don’t miss Little Village. It was a one-shot supergroup with John Hiatt, Ry Cooder, Nick Lowe, and I can’t remember who else. High spots are Solar Sex Panel and She Runs Hot For Me.
On Bring The Family, the song Lipstick Sunrise still takes my breath away.
Second Little Village. Also, I’ll mention that Bring the Family’s band is Nick Lowe, Ry Cooder and Jim Keltner(the fourth member of Little Village)

There is no John Hiatt CD that I don’t like. I do think *Perfectly Good Guitar * is my absolute favorite. Hell, I can’t even think of a single song of his that I would ever skip past. There’s also a tribute album of sorts which name I can’t remember right now that excels. One year I saw him in concert three times and they are some of my very favorite concert memories.
Riding with the King is his best, the album he made with people such as Nick Low, Paul Carrack. I second Bring the Family and suggest the third should be Warming up to the Ice Age.
slight John Hiatt hijack for parents of little kids…
I hate to even ask this, but does John Hiatt sing the opening theme song of the “Care Bears”? It sounds just like him, but I can’t imagine that it really is him. Unless he got conned into it ala Richard Harris/Dumbledore.
