John Hurt RIP

Actor John Hurt has died.
*
Legendary actor John Hurt has died, aged 77.

The Elephant Man star, whose career spanned over six decades, had battled with both cancer and an intestinal complaint in recent years.

Survived by his wife of 12 years, Anwen Rees-Myers, he recently starred as a priest in the Oscar nominated biopic of President John F. Kennedy’s widow, Jackie, currently showing in cinemas.*

Crap. Loved that guy. Very cool of him to parody his famous Alien scene in Spaceballs. Memorable in many films, including the otherwise meh The Field.

I was just thinking of him the other day because of that scene. ‘Not again…’ Heh.

RIP.

From “1984” and “V for Vendetta”, two "case studies in totalitarianism. RIP, Mr. Hurt. (Also, the only good thing in “Osterman Weekend”.)

Ollivander, the War Doctor, Kane

A quote of his (according to IMDb):

“We are all racing towards death. No matter how many great, intellectual conclusions we draw during our lives, we know they’re all only man-made, like God. I begin to wonder where it all leads. What can you do, except do what you can do as best you know how.”

Also, they claim he has the record for on-screen deaths – 47 (!).

Hazel.

Oddly, the verb “rip” often comes to mind when I think of John Hurt…

What made him the great actor he was?

°Д°

Looks like I should try to rent The Naked Civil Servant and Midnight Express. I’ve yet to see either one.

The Narrator.

:frowning: A great talent.

My favorite film of his was the somewhat obscure “The Shout” where he and his wife (Susannah York) are traumatized by a sociopathic Alan Bates.

Little known fact: Hurt was a good friend of and partying companion of John Entwistle.

Son of a whore. :frowning:

Aw man, this sucks. I always enjoyed his work. RIP Mr. Hurt.

He scared the absolute shit out of me in The Elephant Man. I was 7 when that film came out. And it still fucking haunts me.

I also loved him in the extremely underrated From the Hip.

RIP. One of my favorite actors.

Anybody else remember Scandal? Another great film

It wasn’t that long ago I finally stopped mixing him up with William Hurt (by name).

And people were worried they wouldn’t have enough celebrity deaths in 2017.

Zeus, by Jove, that is to say, by Myself, am I the first to mention Caligula?

Two great parts (one big, one small) not mentioned yet: The Hit and Dead Man. RIP.
