John Lennon's death and the Beatles

When Lennon was shot, where and what were the remaining Beatles doing when they first heard the news?

McCartney, hearing the news from a journalist with a live mic, infamously reacted with the single word “Bummer.” Not sure about George and Ringo.

Not quite. Paul heard the news earlier that morning, and spent the morning crying with Linda and the kids before they went to school and Linda forced him to go to work. He was still in the state of shock when the journalist shoved the mic in his face. I don’t know about George and Ringo though.

Lennon was shot around 10:00 on Decemeber 8, 1980, outside of his apartment building (the Dakota) in New York City. He was bundled into the back of a police car, by the time he reached the hospital, he was dead.

I do remember RIngo was the one that went to New York first and helped take care of things for Yoko.

George was probably gardening.

Or playing the ukelele.

Lost in the crash, so I’ll post it again: Thank you, pepperlandgirl, for putting Macca’s remark in context. I know the story too, and I get fed up when people use the quote (actually, I believe he said “It’s a drag”) against him. Because he didn’t deliver an instant eulogy? Give him a break!
