Watch Mitchell to get an idea of a typical John Saxon performance. And when you do, marvel that Joe Don Baker is still alive.
Long time fan here. Good sturdy character actor. Makes a great “cop buddy of the iconoclastic PI” type character.
I’m not too familiar with him. I do remember seeing him in loads of 1970s action TV shows, notably The Six Million Dollar Man, and also the movie Battle Beyond The Stars, but outside of that he seems to have passed me by.
Same goes here, but looking at his filmography on wiki, he did a LOT of work!
Enter The Dragon, though.
I remember him in Planet Earth which was a pilot for a new SF TV series from Gene Roddenberry in the 70s but the series was not picked up.
He sure got around - many Italian roles, a Bollywood one…
I’ll always think of him as Roper, though.
Here he tells a story about going to shoot Enter The Dragon, John Saxon meets Bruce Lee
He was conisdered for the role of “Max Cherry” in Jackie Brown. It went to the late Robert Forster instead.
RIP, John.
A friend of mine pointed out that you should always look at his hair in any movie: lotsa hair, good guy; no hair, bad guy. I enjoyed his work.
Either Roper or Dylan Hunt. I actually think I saw him first in the latter role.
RIP, John.
Rest in Pax John.
Say hi to Freddy Krueger. Nightmare on Elm Street was your favorite performance of mine.
I remember him in a number of things in the 70s, but nothing specific. I also remember my mom had the hots for him. RIP John.
Good call. Completely forgot that one.
John - RIP and go kick some ass with Bruce
I have an uncle who looks a lot like him, so I whenever he’d show up on our TV screen we’d say “Hey, there’s that actor who looks like Alfred!”
Huh, I could’ve sworn that Joe Don Baker died a few years ago. Maybe I’m confusing him with the dude who played Rowsdower?
I was thinking Joe Don Baker was in the first Walking Tall movie and Bo Svenson was in the sequels, so maybe you had those two actors confused for each other.
But then I checked and found that Svenson is also still alive.
That’s possible, sure.
I love it when beefy pudgy guys make it into their 80’s.
He was in one of my all-time favorite movies - Mr Hobbs Takes a Vacation. I thought he was gorgeous.
