John Stamos' Left Ear, you're a fucking idiot

Yip, I got it, too. I’d even suggestion putting that last paragraph in the GD thread itself, without the word “fucking.”

I’m pro-choice until viability, myself. At that point, the woman only has the right to control her body, and not the fetus’s.

I am with you.

I am actally also pretty psyched that someone else is pro choice and believes Roe v Wade was a bad ruling.

One more person here who is pro-choice and thinks Roe was poorly written, at best (but I got a B in Con Law, so you probably shouldn’t listen to me).

I had no problem following your point, NRATB, but I think the issue is better framed as the right to reproductive self-determination than privacy.

My favorite “country” album.

This happens all too often on this board.

Person A: I don’t think that what Evil Person Z did is actually illegal.

Person B: OMG! How dare you support what Evil Person Z did! How would you feel if Evil Person Z did that do you, or your mother, or your precious little babies! I cannot believe how cruel and heartless people can be. This is outrageous!

Person A: I’m not saying I support it. I’m just pointing out that there is no law against it. I think there should be a law against it, but that’s unlikely to happen. And I don’t know if -

Person B: BUT YOU SAID you don’t think he should go to jail. That means you support what he did! How could you endorse what he did!? I am disgusted that you think Evil Person Z is a good person! I can’t believe you want to go around yourself doing what Evil Person Z did! You are such a horrible person!

Yep.

Of course there is the variation where person A always HAS to show up and note that very bad thing isn’t actually illegal when the people there fracking know that already and are just bitching about the “this sucks” aspect of it. And of course it takes person A several pages to finally state the second part. So, they stir up shit to state the obvious without noting “but this IS probably a bad thing somehow” part much later. I think everybody here can think of a few legal begal posters here that pull that baloney.

Exactly. I think people here are so used to those posters that any time anyone pulls anything similar they all think that even someone like RNATB has a hidden agenda. Because most of the time the person pulling this does have a hidden agenda, even if that’s not the case in this instance.

Yep, totally agree with this pitting. I’ve had this exact same interaction with a different poster (complete with the failure to understand the concept of an analogy).

Some people just don’t get the whole “I don’t like it but I think it is (or should be) legal” thing.

I’ve never seen this happen because of the part I bolded above. People often either (i) flatly state that it is illegal or (ii) post other things strongly indicating a believe that it is illegal. The legal beagle then comments on the legal angle and (IMHO) has no obligation to further comment on what they think of the substance of it.

Did I miss a new rule? To the best of my knowledge, one can use the expletive fucking in GD or in any other forum as long as it is not directed at a poster.

People who don’t like cursing can find the My Little Ponies forum.

And there ya go folks…and right on cue to boot.

Fuck that!

I suppose you have an example of me doing what you apparently are saying that I do?

If it happened really, really frequently, it seems like someone would have popped up by now to agree with Mr. Stamos’s Ear and condemn the author of the thread’s OP.

Most forums are going to attract a few unhinged zealots but it doesn’t appear that there is a large population of unhinged pro-choice zealots here at the SDMB.

You probably think this thread is about you don’t you…

Thank you. I’ve been seeing this pretty often, and really, there’s no rule against swearing in another forum that I’ve been able to see. Fuck knows I swear often enough outside the Pit and I haven’t been warned about that.

I think I was fairly clear; maybe you don’t comprehend it.

If states have the right to prohibit it, THEY WILL PROHIBIT IT. Not all, but many. Enough. This is a fact.

If you feel this is okay, that’s lovely. Really, even though I (and the Supreme Court) disagree, feel free to feel that way. However I feel that it’s silly to claim to be pro choice when you advocate for a position that will remove choice assuredly.

The issue - which you have yet to actually respond to - is you seem to live in a fantasy world where ideals trump reality. You have ideals that abortion should be legal, but also have ideals that the states should be allowed to make that decision individually, but you also feel that folks in Mississippi or any one of several dozen other states should share your ideals. They should be allowed to prohibit abortion. They just shouldn’t actually do it.

And that’s a fantasy world. Maybe an ideal one, maybe arguably a better one than the one we got, but still one that doesn’t exist.

You never replied if you were a Rob Paul supporter (since this the Pit, I’ll just say a Paultard and get it over with) but his problems are the same as yours whether you do support the guy or not (and I suspect you do as this supposedly “intellectual” discussion is meaningless in the real world).

I realize that the real world with real people can be a scary place. Maybe someday you will be able to feel more comfortable in it. But it’s all we got. And theoretical excercises won’t change that.

No, you’re still just an idiot

He’s not advocating anything. He simply feels the SCOTUS made a mistake in law. He’s probably pleased they did so.

Edited to add an analogy: Recently a rugby league game was held between Queensland and New South Wales. The referee made a mistake which sealed the win for Queensland. Even many Queensland supporters acknowledge that the call was wrong, but they are still happy to accept the victory.
