Do y’all buy the fact that he and his fellow actors caught cancer from the movie having been filmed on the islands that we (the US) tested our nuclear weapons on, or were they just heavy smokers?
Thanks!
Quasi
PS: I may be wrong. It might have been atomic weapons!
Quasi, many years ago Cecil did a great Straight Dope column on this exact subject----It is well worth looking up and reading…
ETA–the movie you are talking about was actually filmed here in (southern) Utah, and many people in the area died from various rare cancers related to radiation exposure
John Wayne starred* in more movies than any other actors in the history of cinema. There’s just no way with a body of work that size this movie is his worst. He made 20 or so great, great films–well, he starred in 20 or so great, great films–a huge pile of mediocre movies, and of course some major stinkers. Classic bell curve. I haven’t seen every movie he ever made of course, but I have seen this film and it didn’t strike me as the pointy tail of a bell curve.
You are obviously a decent and very intelligent guy Quasimodem, and I enjoy the SDMB more because of your contributions and insights…
Best of thoughts, Matthew from Salt Lake
Don’t apologize to us for starting threads, Quasimodem. The board would get kind of boring if nobody started any. And anyway there’s nothing wrong with starting a thread to have the SDMB remind you of something.
