One of the best rep houses in the country is doing a Johnnie To series and as weirdly irresistable as they all sound, I have to admit I’ve never seen a film by him and don’t know much about his reputation. So, all Asian-action-film junkies out there…what films of his that are screening in the series should I make the most concerted effort to catch?
It’s my experience that To has improved a great deal over time. So see them in reverse chronological order, stopping before you get to Heroic Trio, which see only for its limited camp value.
I forgot that he did Heroic Trio, which I did see (and liked more than you did, apparently), but the IMDB ratings seem to concur that the more recent stuff is better-regarded. I’ll see what my schedule looks like, but I’ll definitely catch one or two…
