After making a robot out of my son’s Duplo blocks today, I shouted “Johnny 5 is alive!” but confused my wife. Apparently, the direct quote doesn’t appear in Short Circuit (“Number 5 is alive” does appear) which she has seen several times. It isn’t until the very end of the movie that Number 5 takes the name Johnny 5. So of course, it must be in Short Circuit 2 which she’s only seen once. But I can’t find any video evidence for that line in the sequel.
“Johnny 5 is alive” is all over Youtube plus this Robot Chicken clip but I can’t find the original source of the quote. How did the misquote become the more common pop cultural phrase? Help me out here!
