Jon McNaughton's latest Trump atrocity

He used the phrase “Painter of Light” as a trademark, if that’s what you mean.

No shit, but speculating on what it might possibly be and then moving it to another forum without clicking the fucking link is just plain silly.

Heroin Jesus? THAT was cool! LOL Who knew Jesus was a crackhead?

I didn’t say he was a master, just that he’s wasting his skills on crap. He’s better than Thomas Kinkade, who made everything look like it was on fire.

This guy could probably be good if he went beyond the cliched bullshit, and actually practiced. That’s the sad thing about a lot of these artists – they have the basic skills, but they waste them. Take some classes, practice, study. You might do something really cool.

A phrase which he appropriated from English artist JMW Turner and still his crappy pastorals were better than McNaughton’s. I speak with the authority of a person whose taste is located directly in her mouth.

Yup. A couple of them look like they would have water dripping off the left side. That watermill one would drive me nuts. I’d be forever trying to straighten it.

But, he does capture something. Nothing I would ever hang in my house. My Mom, Dad and a cousin are artists, and I have their work hanging in my house.

Theres nothing illegitimate about that. There’s no requirement that someone be the first to use a phrase to make it one’s trademark. One must just be the first to use it as a trademark.

:dubious:¿

Turner’s pastorals just need the addition of a railroad or mill, the more satanic the better, to be brilliant.

Yeah, those suck.

I was actually thinking of a painting that included Trump sitting around a table with other Republicans, but google tells me that was by Andy Thomas.

I didn’t realize that there so many of these painters out there (Thomas has done some Democratic friendly ones, too)

Whose, Kinkade’s or Turner’s? Because if you mean Kinkade’s, I totally disagree. Far too sugary. But again, great for parody.

I don’t mind the high brix, although I am liking it less and less as time goes by, but my real beef with Kincade is that he isn’t good at what he does. For a lot of artists, even if you don’t like the thing, you can at least say “well, if that’s the sort of thing you like, you’ll like this sort of thing.” But any number of other artists can do the twee twilight cottage motif better than Kinkade, who suffers from a lack of perspective and, ironically, proper lighting.

If you need to induce vomiting and don’t have any ipecac in the house, just check out the comments on this painting. Check out this gem:

Here’s another disgusting work showing Cadet Bone Spurs triumphantly scoring a TD against team blue.

Darth Shit-for-Brains couldn’t walk fifty yards, never mind run.

That watermill one is really bugging me now.

  1. Where the hell is the water that turns the wheel coming from? By the look of it, the answer to that is “a magic tree”

  2. Wouldn’t the water wheel normally be turning something inside the millhouse? If so, why is it seemingly about 12 feet away from, and at a different angle to, the millhouse?

  3. The larger of the two extensions to the main house has a really awkward roof arrangement with the main house. The two just aren’t tied in at all.

  4. That chimney stack on the larger extension. Why is it built right on a corner and not on a side? Presumably there’s a fireplace on the other side; how the hell does it enter the room?

I could go on, but it’s making my head hurt.

You’ve never heard of abstract art?

I take the latter three points, but the rest of the mill run could be obscured by foliage. And other than the tilting to the left, it’s still better than Kinkade.

I meant Kinkade’s crappy pastorals are better than McNaughton’s. Which is not high praise, knowwhatimean?

I’m surprised McNaughton hasn’t yet done one like the second one down here.

He’s not scoring a touchdown. He snuck out on the field in the middle of a game and he’s stealing the ball.

Word. Which direction is the stream supposed to be running in? It’s like he composed the scene from disparate elements, like clip art.

There’s a lot of that in those samples.

Not all of the comments are like that. It doesn’t look like he filters his page, so you’ve got some good ones. The football painting especially.
