Jon Stewart needs a vacation

He earned a lot of slack from me for this bit. I still giggle remembering it.

I’m not sure about the irregular correspondents, but I’m pretty sure the regular ones write (at least some) their own stuff, at least Oliver and Cenac are credited as writers, I’m actually fairly sure one of them (my gut says Cenac) is actually credited as lead writer.

Why stop now? We always watch it online (when we watch it).

And tastes certainly differ: as much as I like Kristin Schaal on TDS, I thought that “Kristin Schaal is a horse” bit was terrible.

I liked it. It was clumsy, but a funny way. Plus it was kind of educational (which I guess is Vowell’s thing), and I liked the Peanuts characters gloating over the British dead. I hope they bring her on for more history bits.

Plus, most of the correspondents get better after a few times, its a hard format even for stand-up comics, apparently.

(ETA: not a big fan of Schaal though. Granted I haven’t caught her on the show very often.)

Tim Carvell is the head writer. And Jon Stewart is also credited as a writer. Every host of every late night talk show is credited as a writer, in fact. That doesn’t mean they write their own stuff. They may. The host(s) of Weekend Update on SNL do their own writing. But I’m sure that’s unusual because everybody talks about that as unusual.

I just doubt that the person who speaks the words normally writes them. If so, what do those other 15 writers do?
