Jon Stewart returns to The Daily Show! (Not for Politics, see P&E thread)

I may have missed this being posted somewhere else, but I think this is terrific! There is no one like Stewart and IMHO he made The Daily Show what it was like no one else could. And now, he’s back!

OK, to be fair, he’s only back once a week, on Mondays, and will be executive producer for the rest. But geez, to be fair, when he was doing this five days a week, it must have been brutal to keep up the quality – no wonder it wore him out.

This is going to be interesting. Frankly, I’d rather that the show be renamed “The Weekly Show (formerly the Daily show)” and have Stewart as the only host, but we’ll see how this works out. Starts February 12.

That’s great news! I’ve been wondering what they were planning to do long-term.

Oh, I thought that was what they were doing, similar to “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver”.

Does anybody know if The Daily Show also shows up on any streaming channel? I haven’t watched it since Stewart left, and we cut our cable years ago.

Trevor Noah did a fantastic job IMHO; he’s a really talented comedian and presenter, and I wouldn’t want to say he was worse than Jon; it was just a different kind of show.

I think that Jon Stewart’s style is what the country needs right now (and I don’t think that’s too hyperbolic), so I am also excited by this.

Could be a mistake. I don’t think Stewart is the same person he was 8 years ago when he abandoned the country in the face of our greatest enemy. That candle burned out.

I hope he ends up staying past the election as a permanent Monday host. I also hope that as the election approaches, he hosts each day of the week for the last few weeks.

I was familiar with Stewart well before the Daily Show and honestly, he kind of bounced around doing different hosting gigs and finally found the one that brought out the right aspects of his personality.

The Problem…was OK.

It’s on Paramount, which says a new season starts streaming on February 13.

I go that impression of him, based on a couple of appearances on The Late Show and elsewhere. He’s changed.

I guess we’ll find out. I think we should keep in mind that the persona of a show host in his own element is often quite different than what it is in other situations, including real life.

All I can say is I absolutely loved Stewart when he was hosting the show and I hope we get more of that. I have nothing against Trevor Noah but I was so distraught after Stewart left the show that I never watched even one episode after that.

Me too. But we should be prepared to find out it won’t be the same as it was.

While we wait, remember this gem with Jordan Klepper?

While we’re reminiscing. John on Chicago Deep Dish Pizza.

That’s a little harsh. I would hardly call being a tireless advocate for 9/11 families, first responders and burn pit veterans “abandoning his country”. The man’s done a lot of important work since leaving the Daily Show.

Just watched his opening. It was like a balm to listen to him again! I don’t think I’ve laughed that hard at late night in a long time. My only issue is that he is going to lean into both-side-ism with Biden’s age too much over the next 9 months. I’m hoping this mocking of Biden’s age (which was not wrong and was still very funny) is just to establish himself before getting into the real horrors of Trump, Trump supporters, Trump family members and Trump voters.

Well said! It was so, so nice to see Jon Stewart back – like the return of a dear old friend! He’s not lost any of his hilarious sharp wit. There’s just no one else like him!

I know he’s only hosting on Mondays, but hey, I’ll take what I can get. Now I have Bill Maher on Fridays, John Oliver on Sundays, and the inimitable Jon Stewart on Mondays!

Jon’s return was the impetus for us signing up for Paramount +. A welcome voice indeed.

I watched last night’s just now on cc.com (Comedy Central).

He didn’t miss a beat, just like there hasn’t been a 9 year gap.

“What the Fuck are we doing 2024” works well for me.
“Indecision 20/24 Antiques Roadshow” isn’t as good.

What an amazing opening.
Boy I missed him, Noah was OK, but Stewart is the master.

Ronny stole the 2nd bit in the diner. Talk about overcommitting to a bit.

So current correspondents:
Jordan Klepper, Desi Lydic, Ronny Chieng, Michael Kosta and Dulcé Sloan. Jordan is hosting the rest of this week.

I like Jon, this is not an attack on him, liberals or the show.

His pale wrinkled skin, bloodshot watery eyes remind me so much of the morning drunks at my old bartending gig. Hope he is healthier than he looks.

He’s 61 and sitting under bright lights, not sure what he should look like, he looks a lot like a 61 year old to me.

Over a decade I worked at a bar were many 61 year old’s walked in under bright lights. I hope his liver is healthier than I suspect.
