I had my DVR set to record it, but the recording cut off before the show ended. Which means I need to find some place to watch the whole episode.
Just be on the safe side, I set my DVR to record an additional 15 minutes for future episodes.

The show (or at least just over twenty minutes of it) was posted to YouTube. And by the way, I liked Dulce Sloan’s comments, while supposedly talking about the rematch election between Biden and Trump, "I mean, they already had this job. Now these old white dudes gotta come back and reclaim it? Like come on sir, go do something new. It’s so desperate.”
I went in bracing myself for disappointment, but almost immediately I knew I was back home again.
I haven’t watched the Daily Show in nine years, and I’ll likely only watch on Mondays going forward.
mmm
Exactly how I feel!
IIRC the original Daily Show with Jon Stewart was kept to a pretty strict 30 minutes. This one ran nearly three-quarters of an hour. Don’t know about future episodes.
Jon just helped trump win.
Face it- Jon Stewart is a trump loving MAGA hat wearing asshole.
Ok, you’re out of this thread and getting a warning.
This is the Cafe, not the pit.
You’ve been slipping lately, but this is pretty extreme.
I guess I’m an outlier in having enjoyed Trevor Noah more than John Stewart. Buy i was never a regular watcher.
I’ll be curious to see where Stewart takes the show.
My hope is that Jon Stewart expands his hosting to all four days of the week from October-November.
I had to wait until the Jon Stewart episode appeared on Paramount+, so I just watched last night. It was great to see Stewart back. No one does the Daily Show like him, not that I watched it much after he left.
However…
Let me tread carefully here-- I don’t want to be seen as in agreement with a certain other poster in this thread, but I did feel like Stewart was too critical of Biden, and not nearly critical enough of trump. And don’t get me wrong, it’s not like I’m saying 'leave Biden alone-- he should be immune to criticism since his opponent is so much worse". I’m saying Stewart’s take, that we have this terrible choice of two old guys, is too simplistic, and is missing the point in my opinion.
Biden, who yes, is very old, is still a capable leader who is miles and miles more qualified to be President than trump, and has been the victim of a very successful smear campaign by the right to depict him as a senile old fool. On the other hand we have trump, who is a criminal con man who already tried to subvert an election and is promising to tear everything down if he gets reelected. A second trump term has the potential to be an utter disaster for our country, if not the world.
Stewart’s whole deal has been to cut through the BS and speak the plain truth about what is really happening. His take in his last show “what a terrible choice between two old guys, ugh” was not, in my opinion, telling the full truth about what is at stake in the 2024 election. I would have liked to see Stewart cut through the BS of the right painting Biden as senile and incapable and say “here’s what we’re really dealing with…”. But maybe Stewart actually thinks that Biden IS incapable, and trump, while not really a better choice, is not all that bad. That would be unfortunate if that is the case.
Reminder: This is a Cafe Thread, while politics is a major part of the show, the Cafe threads needs to avoid being overtly political.
@solost, your post is up against the line, but on the right side of it.
@DrDeth got in trouble for hitting 3 different threads with the same scree and posting something in this one much more suitable to the Pit. This and the hijacks are all in violation of his suspension a little over 2 years ago.
I watched Jordon Kepler’s hosting from last night just now. His opening monologue was weak but then he was off interviewing people in the field, which is really his strength. The show was about on par with the last 9 years.
Not sure exactly what we can post here, but he still sucks at interviewing.
That is completely allowed of course.
The interviews were his weak spot, especially the Celebrities just doing the publicity tours.
He’s actually very good with Non-Celebs though Monday’s was awkward as hell. He was off his game, I’ll assume rust. She was a poor interviewee, going off on long boring almost rants.
His interviews with people like McCain and Doris Kearns Goodwin were always excellent.
Something I noted a long time ago, in the days of the original Daily Show with Jon Stewart, is that unlike typical talk shows that featured “celebrities” and with whom the host would engage in frivolous chit-chat, Stewart would much more often have interview guests who were invited because they had substantive things to say, and Stewart would engage with them at that intellectual level. It was actually one of the strengths of the show.
As for his interview on Monday with Zanny Minton Beddoes, quite honestly I wasn’t especially interested in what she had to say and wasn’t really paying a lot of attention. I suspect – or at least I hope – that future interviews Stewart does will be more like his old style.
I hear ya. There is a lot on the line in the upcoming election and Stewart can successfully reach millions of viewers who will believe what Stewart has to say. People listen to Stewart. I could not handle another 4 years of Trump.
However, I disagree. I think it was just the first episode introducing the two candidates in a funny/satirical way that is topical (ie, the Hurr report just released and the headline was elderly/poor memory). Generally, I think lots of people would rather these two same guys not be running again, but here we are.
Also, let’s say there was a smear campaign against say Obama, Buttigieg, or Newsome to paint them as senile. Those guys would shut it down in two seconds being clear, lucid, witty, etc. in response after response after response. In comparison, Biden seems to have trouble shutting it down (the perception) and that inability fuels it. Not saying Biden is senile or incapable - I think he is, but just that he is unable to shut down the perception. I think Stewart was just acknowledging that, and saying yea, Biden can come off that way - here’s video of him trying to do it just the other day and he comes off as an elderly man talking about cookies/talking painfully slow, etc. ha ha. For Stewart some viewers, and especially those who say can’t make up their mind and flip between Fox and CNN, that is a legit concern and it needs to be acknowledged, and laughed at.
To be clear, acknowledge does not equal agree.
This is what separates Stewart from Kepler. I love Kepler - he’s a sharp, extremely witty comic who makes fun of the other side. But Stewart has that extra depth…much less dismissive, and an emotional level, that Kepler doesn’t have right now (or use if he did have it). I think he could though, you can sense some empathy when he interviews some Trump people; there is a depth there.
Fortunately, I have Paramount+ so I was able to watch the full episode this morning. I did see that last night’s episode went back to the standard 30 minutes.
I haven’t seen any of the shows, but several bloggers were dismayed at what seemed like excessive both sidesing.
Never mind
Stewart wasn’t doing ‘both sides’. He was saying that Trump is too dangerous, and the Democrats need their best candidate to ensure that Trump doesn’t win. Stewart looked absolutely terrified at the prospect of a Trump presidency, which is why he wants a better candidate than Joe.
If your candidate isn’t electable, you aren’t doing your side any favors by pretending he os becuse you don’t want the criticism. That’s not supporting your prty, it’s helping them lose.
Today 86% of the public think Biden is too old to run again. And Biden will only get worse as time goes on. 59% also think Trump is too old as well. But 86% is a pretty scary number if you want to win.
I will say the last thing I wrote:
Ignoring problems with our candidates is what MAGA does.
BTW, This isn’t new for Stewart. He always spoke his mind about his side of the isle.
