Jon Stewart vs. John McCain

McCain got completely owned. He was extremely defensive the whole time, and seemed like a complete Rightard from the beginning.

I can’t wait to watch the rebroadcast. The clips I saw were delish.

McCain is fast on his feet. I’ll give him that. He almost outflanked Stewart once or twice…but his points were invariably transparent Republican propaganda.

It was one of the more intense exchanges on the Daily Show. I suspect because Jon is more comfortable with John than most other guests, he took the kid gloves off.

That was a great exchange. McCain did not come off great.

Jim

McCain appears to have learned from his appearance.

I was worried at first that Jon would softball McCain, but it’s clear that he didn’t. I think that he also must have struck a nerve at some point because of McCain’s crack about the IED.

Stewart handled him no doubt. The good thing about it was that Stewart never made it personal. He attacked the policies, not the person. I wish more people in media and politics could do that.

Gotta give McCain some credit tho, he hung in there. The man has more balls then should be wasted on supporting Bush.

Well, I think Stewart perhaps focussed a little too much on Bush’s policies rather than McCain’s platform but its understandable since McCain’s current strategy appears to be to try to avoid saying anything bad about the current administration and that adds up to an appearance of tacit approval. Good interview, though, and McCain definitely got the worst of it.

I thought Stewart blundered when he started talking about the troops. McCain jumped all over that with both feet.

I hated how McCain kept on rabbiting the same lines over Stewart’s as he tried to ask him questions. It got super annoying after a while. I wasn’t impressed - well, I don’t know how McCain could impress me after having his lips attached to Bush’s ass, but he sounded like a creepy politician most of the time. Stewart ripped him, and he totally deserved it.

Was this tonight’s show? I need to DVR it… guide says Gary Shandling… advise…

Last Nights. Tonight is Shandling.

do they re-play these beyond the next day on Comedy Central?

Not until they take a week off. Try Comedy Central’s website–they show a lot of the show. And there’s always other sources on the internet.

They replay them the next day, during the day.

McCain didn’t shut up. Yeesh. I understand that you want to get your talking points in, but stop talking for a minute to let the frickin’ host talk.

Now, I didn’t see the entire thing and it’s very possible that he didn’t yammer the ENTIRE time.

Totally agree. I noticed that in the beginning of the interview, Jon would stop talking and let John talk when he interrupted. But about halfway in, Jon could see that John would never stop blathering, so he just dove in to make his points. There were times when I couldn’t make out who was saying what, because they were just talking over each other. McCain came off as a total tool in that segment, smug and condescending. Even more so than most politicians.

Just logged onto comedycentral.com, tonight, Wednesday 25th, the first part of the interview clip plays immediately after it starts loading. Part two is on the side, haven’t clicked it yet.

I thought McCain handled it pretty well. I’m impressed with his intelligence and ability to go toe to toe with Stewart. Stewart’s got little to lose, McCain has lots to lose with an ill-spoken choice of words but he’s quick on his feet.

Jon has an irritating way of constantly switching subjects when things don’t go his way, but McCain kept up.

Jon’s audience has a really irritating way of applauding and cheering every time Jon farts, as if he just pwnd his guest.

I don’t think McCain was that bad. He’s fighting a seriously losing battle in front of a pretty hostile audience. At least I wasn’t uncomfortable watching it. I just don’t buy the"Well the war was executed poorly, but NOW things are different" argument.

McCain lost, but lost as best he could. I just don’t know why he insists on losing.

Huh. The never got to talk about “Bomb, bomb, bomb, Bomb, bomb Iran.”

Just as well, I suppose.

It was almost O’Reilly v Rivera.

But McCain was a dick. Wouldn’t shut his mouth. Repeated the same bumper sticker slogans over and over. Didn’t even listen to the questions, much less answer them. His small minded loyalty to Bush has been his undoing. I mean, I could understand if Bush had always defended McCain in the same way, but there wasn’t any love when Bush turned Rove lose on him. I’m afraid the Darling of the Left has lost all his luster.
