Unwittingly, Gordon may have helped advance the conversation about the NFL’s stoopid stoopid marijuana policy. For every person focusing on the rule breaker himself, there are probably two more who are asking why these policies exist in the first place. Even Goodell said this week that they are open to the possibility of allowing the use of medical marijuana in the treatment of pain or concussions. Baby steps from a powerful organization finding itself increasingly on the wrong side of its congregants.
Since this thread had some age on it, I went back and re-read it from the beginning. I was really enjoying the opportunity to poke the NFL and the “rules are rules” people on this board.
His suspension was conditionally lifted today, though he will still miss the first 4 games of the season. That gives him until October to violate the policy and earn himself a lifetime ban. Anybody want to bet against him being banned for life before he ever plays in another regular season game? Jim Brown advocated for him. I wonder if he was able to impress upon Gordon that the NFL isn’t playing with him anymore, that they will ban him with no remorse should he breathe even so much as the burped air from a guy who smoked doobage last week. If his test shows anything more than absolute stone-cold zero he’s history.
I’m just hoping that next time he decides to run afoul of NFL rules, he beats his girlfriend in public on camera or runs over and kills someone with his car or something minor like that so he’s given a harsh talking to rather than getting a death sentence for whiffing some secondhand smoke.
He’s allowed to participate in team meetings and practices and stuff, unlike Tom Brady during his suspension. Hopefully that will allow the team to help keep him in line. I just hope he focuses on football because when he plays, he’s a beast.
