Joss Whedon financed and shot a movie in 12 days that didn’t have “Avengers” in the title: and it stayed secret.
I’ve merged this post into JSexton’s thread and I expanded the title for clarity. The original title was “Much Ado: The Movie.”
Man, that was quick! I just copied the url for this thread to reply to Bricker, and the threads get combined. It’s like it happened by me thinking about it.
Hmmm…
Million dollars or Michelle Trachtenberg naked?
It even stays a secret after multiple threads are created!
I’m very torn. I love everything about this except, goddamn, Amy Acker. Fred was by far the worst regular part of Angel (unless you count whatshisname with the hand) and I just can’t stand the sight of her.
Wow, I totally disagree. And she was cool on Dollhouse, too.
Wow. Anyone heard rumors of a release date yet?
Some of the speculation is that it will be released primarily online, just like Dr. Horrible. It might be rather sudden; I can’t imagine that Whedon would release a teaser after keeping it such a tight secret and then wait four months to release it unless it’s going to end up in theatres.
I don’t know, could be a lot of hustle about not really much…
The reason for that plot twist now makes me rather angry. They not only killed off a character but had her soul destroyed just because he wanted her to play another part? Seriously? They went all Hans Christen Andersen’s Little Mermaid just for acting logistics? You know, the saddest of his works?
I don’t normally go into that meme of pretending a show didn’t happen, but I am doing it now. I flat out reject the change, when made for that reason. It. Didn’t. Happen.
That seems like a perfectly valid artistic decision, to me. Calling it “logistics” doesn’t make much sense. It’s not a matter of scheduling the performance. Whedon wanted to give one of his actors a chance to express their range as a performer. He turned Fred into Illyria because he thought that Acker could do a really entertaining bad-ass character. He did it because he thought it would make good television. I think he made the right call.
That said, I’m pretty sure the reason Fred got whacked was because Whedon couldn’t play out the unrequited love storyline any longer, and wasn’t interested in writing Fred and Wesley in a relationship. Acker’s performance during the readings likely just helped him decide between killing Fred or Wesley.
Finally, as far as the story goes, my understanding is that, if they hadn’t been cancelled, more and more of Fred’s memories and personality would surface in Illyria’s mind, until she basically became a slightly creepier Fred with super powers. He idea wasn’t so much to kill Fred as level her up.
Drama is a lot like sausages.
Well, now I know what I’ll be watching today-to the DVD archives!
