I am not sure whether Joss Whedon is trolling the crap out of me or not, but supposedly he assembled a terrific cast of Whedon regulars and filmed an adaptation of Much Ado About Nothing on the sly: http://muchadothemovie.com/ Nathan Fillion and Sean Maher are tweeting about it, and insisting it’s not a joke.
Opinions? Is this for real? I sure hope so, because I will watch the shit out of it.
The one and only question anyone ever needs to ask about any version of Much Ado about Nothing is, who’s playing Beatrice and Benedick? If the two leads have good chemistry, it’ll work well, and if they don’t, it won’t, regardless of anything else about the production.
Ooh, that could really work. Much Ado is easily the best Shakespeare comedy to film, and some of the humour is actually pretty Whedonesque. And it has Nathan Fillion. I hope it is real.
I guess that after six months of shooting massive action set pieces, Joss felt the need to work on something cheap and dialog-oriented. Perfectly understandable.
Not that I have any actual knowledge or anything, but I doubt they’re going to change much of anything. It’s been known for years that Whedon loves his Shakespeare and hosts informal readings for his actors regularly. My guess is that they’re be using the Bard’s original words (although perhaps abridged for length).
