I was outside and I saw a bunch of junebugs just laying on their back and trying to turn over. I turned over about 20 of them and a minute later they are all on their backs again struggling. so I turned them over again and another minute later they are on their backs again. Are they just dumb and why cant they stay on their feet?
Because it’s too early. It’s only April; they’re not ripe yet.
I’ve always thought junebugs are dumb. Other bugs may repeatedly fly into window panes thinking it’s open space, but only junebugs will repeatedly fly into a solid wall trying to get through.
It could be they’re not just struggling to turn over, but actually trying to do something on their backs (mating dance, scratching their back, etc.).
