I’ve moved a few times in my life, through a series of 8 or so addresses in the last dozen years. I’m no stranger to the postal change of address forms. I’m also quite accustomed to throwing away junk mail addressed to previous tenants, so no trouble there. At my most recent address, though, about 6 months after moving, I started receiving various kinds of mail marked with my father’s name, and my postal address. Most of it is junk, from companies large and small, and some of it is solicitation for donations that you commonly see. I also get catalogs from companies with which he’s most likely done mail-order business before. I haven’t lived with the man since 2002, and he’s not moved since 1987. I have never had business with any of the companies in question, and he still seems to get plenty of junk mail that’s addressed to him correctly at his home.
So I have a series of questions that are of some interest to me, but only one that really matters: how do I fix this? I don’t want to get his junk mail, nor run the risk of having something important of his being sent here.
Also of interest, but less significant, are: how might this have happened? How is the error being propagated? Why would it have happened so suddenly? And if someone believes his address has been changed, doesn’t everyone seem to think that?
