Junkyard Megawars - are they cheating?

OK, so few on this board seem to like the ‘updated’ Junkyard megawars - but I’m wondering if they are cheating a bit to keep the Bowser/Crash rivalry close (they are tied at 2 victories apiece now). I don’t know, I’d swear Bowser was somehow screwing things up to lose the grain harvest challenge last night.

I know Cathy Rogers swore Junkyard wars (and Scrapheap Challenge) is fair/unscripted, although the junkyard is seeded beforehand with stuff the experts think they can use - but Cathy is gone, and the new producers - eh!
It just seems to damn pat…

Also, why do they keep calling Crash such a brainiac - this past show (combine/combat harvesters, or whatever) he certainly didn’t shine - when they knocked out the windows on the van and replaced them with mesh (I was stunned to see this idiotic move), and of course the grain just blew out the van through mesh as anyone but a fool could see (and why didn’t he ask them to seed the junkyard with washer/dryer vent ducts, so he could have the lawnmowers blow directly into the van - hey, I’m not the expert, he is - so why couldn’t he think of this)

Man, I used to love this show - when is the British set coming on?
(I do believe both fires were unscripted, though :stuck_out_tongue: )

Junkyard Wars used to be one of the highlights of my TV schedule. Now… Yeah. Mesh.

:frowning:

Ugh, the new format sucks big time. Whereas the earlier series celebrated and rewarded teamwork, now the producers seems to be deliberately fostering internal conflict in a misguided effort to make JW more like every other goddam reality show.

Once again, the team captains’ lack of specific expertise resulted in poorly-designed machines, but even worse, both have repeatedly failed to carry out basic checks on on their source vehicles for things like functioning engines and transmissions.

I don’t think they are cheating, exactyly, but they are definitely seeding the junkyard with raw materials, which has always been the case on the show. Re: the most recent ep, I had the impression that after the build, both machines needed considerably more than the usual 1 hour extra for ‘tinkering’ to make them usable.

I’m with SirRay. Put this thing out of its misery and bring back the British series.

What irritated me about last night’s show is that they’ve done this challenge before, and the previous machines were much more ambitious, well, at least more so than Crash’s abortion of a design. In the previous challenge, they actually build a conveyer belt with a sweeper to carry the wheat into the vehicle. Assuming that the mowers would just fling the wheat into the vehicle was just dumb. (And how long does it take to duct tape four lawn mowers to a van? Since when is that a ten hour build?)

Bowser at least thought about how to gather the wheat, even if their vacuum didn’t do such a great job of it. And the idea of a monster weed whacker was clever.

I know a camera operator for the show, and even in past seasons, there was a lot of testing and I think even final building that you didn’t see.

He even took me to the wrap party for the last season, about 3 months ago. Some guy juggled flaming torches.
