The reason I know it’s not a prequel is because the hang-glidererers are there to sight-see Site B, and could only know about it post-JP2 events.
It wasn’t a Brontosaur, it was a Brachiosaur. Brachiosaurs existed. But the “He won’t hurt us” bit was stupid.
**
It was also used (in the book, anyway) to “explain” the idiotic “T. Rex’s vision is based on movement!” crap. Something which they just off-handedly mentioned in the movie, with no explanation, giving us yet another example of how Hollywood is corrupting our youth with lies and falsehoods (grumble grumble)

During filming (or prehaps just after, I forget), Utahraptor was discovered. This was a Dromaeosaur about the right size to have been Spielberg’s “raptors” (I hate that term, BTW, when used to describe dromaeosaurs!). Of course, Speilberg shouldn’t have been referring to his pets as “velociraptors”, since they clearly were not.

I hate to break it to ya, but T. rex did have lips. Blood vessels along the jaw lines of the upper and lower jaws indicate their presence. And lips are useful for more than just snarling in animals.
And, since this is a JP thread, the single “event” (or rather, the lack thereof) that allowed JP2 to become JP3 was that the Site B island was not bombed into oblivion (in the book, as I recall, Isla Nublar was bombed), thus giving future JP movies a convenient “lost world of dinosaurs” locale any time they want to use it. And if you’ve got it, hey, might as well use it, right?
The impetus for going back to Site B in JP3 is, as mentioned by GuanoLad, because of a hang-gliding accident. The parents (William H. Macy, Tea Leoni) of one of the hang-gliders hire Sam Neill to be their “tour guide” for an ostensible flyover of Site B, then, much to his chagrin, tell the pilot to land the plane. Hilariousness ensues.
Aw come on, Arken, you know the kids being more intelligent than the adults is more than just a movie device. There’s got to be some truth to it.
I want to know, does Tea Leoni die? Deiket really wants her to…but I have my doubts. She is a mother, after all. Jester on the other hands will stage a protest if Macy dies, so there you have it.
This school year I took a bio course on dinos. It was great to mention JP just to see my prof turn purple.
I’ll skip explaining their inaccurate concept of T-Rex’s vision.
I hears the death of the boat crew (On some JP3 site, IIRC) was originally planned to be caused by some raptors onboard the boat, but they ended up cutting any reference to them… Or so I heard, anyway. They certainly overlooked a few details, there
For answers about JP3 to go Dan’sJP3Page.com this site has all kinds of info on the movie. Too much info sometimes…don’t get too deep into the site or you can ruin the movie for yourself.
Thinking back, GuanoLad, the crew of the boat in JP2 couldn’t have been killed by the baby Rex. It wasn’t there–it was already chained up at the park, waiting for mama to arrive by boat. That’s why Sara and Ian had to go get it.
IIRC, the severed arm was hanging off the wheel of the boat, not off of the controller for the door to the hold, but I’ll have to check the DVD. My understanding was that the hand/arm holding the control was most definitely still attached to the body. My guess was that the Rex had chased someone into the hold and, as a dying act, someone managed to close the hold and trap it.
You are right about that first point - I forgot about that.
The second point, I’m pretty sure the switch for the door (that was in the wheelhouse) had an arm attached. I think it did… darn, I forget now.
Doubt! I have DOUBT! Nooooooo!!!
Ummm, nope. I was guilted into going to the first - hubby and daughter really really wanted us all to go. I found it to be incredibly stupid and not even remotely plausible.
I managed to avoid the second, and I intend to avoid the 3rd.
Plausible?
Of course it’s not plausible, but why should that matter?
OK, I checked the DVD, and my suspicions were confirmed.
After the ship carrying the Rex comes crashing into port in San Diego, the characters board it. Peter Ludlow (Hammond’s nephew) and a security guard enter the bridge, where they find the disembodied hand of a crew member hanging from the wheel.
Throughout the scene, you can hear the hydraulics for the door over the hold cycling, as if they are stuck. We then see the hand of another dead crew member holding onto the door control, and from the way it rests, it’s clearly attached to a body. It’s hard to tell, but the way it rests and moves when picked up indicates that it is still attached. So, it looks like this crew member had the “Close” control in a “death grip,” or whatever.
Ludlow then yells, “Check the hold! There might be crew down there!” Ian yells, “Everybody off the ship!” A guard removes the control from the hand of the dead crew member, the door to the hold flies open, and the Rex emerges.
There is a stupid kid on JP3! Arrg! It’s the annoying kid who played Tommy Tomisito on The Sixth Sense. I think they hid him on early previews so’s that I would want to see it. Why oh why do they put children in these movies? I don’t know anyone who ever enjoys those kids. Except Hailey Joel Osmett. (sp?) That kid had mad acting skills.
Just to bump this thread up- is it a prequel to number two or isn’t it? I’m starting to think it is again…
Also, question- what exactly is Site B? i was never too clear on that in the second one. Is it where the dinosaurs breed or something?
And for the record, Bird, I liked the kids. In the first one.
Te-hee. Jusr saw the third one. Liked the kid. Damn. Now what shall I rant about?
Btw–Zoggie, Site B is where all the real mechanics of the park went on. Where the experements and stuff happened. Site A was just a theme park, with all the hatching eggs and stuff that was already “perfected.”
It’s entirely your fault to remind me…
In JP2 there’s the woman hanging on a rope that goes into the trailer that is sliding off the cliff.
The trailer is “falling down around her”, but what is SHE doing relative to the trailer?
She isn’t hanging in the trailer.
She isn’t falling through the trailer.
She isn’t hanging in a falling trailer.
She isn’t pulled through a trailer.
You could say “she (and the rest of the universe) is pulled up through the trailer” but that’s …
What the hell is this?! Everyone likes that horrible Eric!! I abhorred him, I hated him, I despised him, I disliked him, I detest and LOATHE him. He’s done a disservice to the name “Eric” by God. <growling and shivering>
Thank you, Birdie. I was watching The Lost World last night and John Hammond explained about it.
Femtosecond-
It isn’t a prequel to #2. They don’t pretend #2 didn’t happen.
You can see for yourself, relatively early in the movie, where Sam Neill’s character gives a presentation and refuses to answer questions about Jurassic Park OR the events in San Diego.
