I am also sick of people telling me they have “boughten” things. You either bought or purchased something, you cannot have “boughten” anything!
Especially if they mention how much it ‘costed’.
There used to be a woman in our fiscal department who would let us know when she had “paided” something.
Hyphens often exit by way of usage. For example, dictionaries used to list “data-base.” Now it’s “database,” primarily because the word became more widespread.
A guy at work used to ask me if I could “borrow” him a tenner (£10) until payday.
He meant could I “Loan” him…but you guessed that already
