Other comments: A facotry town, not a tourist center, but has more of real Mexico than I’ve gotten in Tijuana.
Just back from Croatia and Slovenia.
Went there because we wanted to go to Europe, but somewhere a little different.
Don’t miss the Plitvice Lakes, they’re incredible. Lake Bled was great, too.
Don’t bother with Zagreb for more than a day.
Coolest souvenir was the watercolor I bought in Dubrovnik.
Worth a splurge - I don’t know, since we didn’t really splurge on anything significant. The whole trip was worth a splurge, I guess.
I with I’d packed my umbrella. I had a rain jacket, but the umbrella would have been much better in the cities.
Other comment - great place to visit, not too far off the beaten track.
Just back from Naples, Fla.
I went because my parents invited my family and me down for a visit.
Don’t miss visiting the Naples Zoo, or taking a sailing cruise aboard the catamaran Sweet Liberty on the Gulf of Mexico.
Don’t bother taking: A suit and tie.
Coolest souvenir: Lots of shells collected on the beach.
Worth a splurge: A quiet, romantic dinner for two at Alexander’s.
I wish I’d packed: More books.
Other comments: The airfare was a killer for a family of five. :eek:
Just back from Colorado (Well, within the last few weeks)
I went because my husband had to attend a meeting in Denver, so we took an opportunity to ski at Steamboat Springs.
Don’t miss The Epicurean, a great restaurant. We ate there last year and were really wowed, so we made a point of finding it again although we couldn’t remember the name.
Don’t bother skiing much longer if you start to get tired. Your legs will betray you, and remember you still have a long slog back to the lockers with those rotten heavy boots on your feet.
Coolest souvenir: It was too short a trip to bother with souvenirs, though I did offer to bring my son a snowball. (We live in Florida).
Worth a splurge: Whatever you need to be comfortable while skiing.
I wish I’d packed: Better sunglasses. I have ski goggles but I never did get them adjusted properly.
Other comments: I don’t much enjoy skiing, but I only have to do it about once a year. If I got to do it more often, maybe I could learn it and like it. Snow and mountains are great!
Just back from Los Angeles.
I went because: my sister was having a birthday party weekend. Magic Mountain and then a party at her house.
Don’t miss: Magic Mountain. I love roller coasters!
Don’t bother trying to get anywhere in L.A. in a timely manner.
Coolest souvenir: I had to buy a sweatshirt at Magic Mountain because I forgot mine at home in Las Vegas. It turned cold and rainy and I just wore a t-shirt that day, so I forked over the 25 bucks for a sweatshirt.
Worth a splurge: There was no splurging on this trip.
I wish I’d packed: my sweatshirt from home.
Other comments: I love partying with my sister!!
Just back from : well I’m still here for a few days, the Tidewater area of Virginia
I went because : Training. What kind of training? Army training!
Don’t miss : The Mariners Museum. I just stumbled on it. They have a whole new wing for the USS Monitor. They have a lot of the artifacts and are preserving the turret, guns and engine. Very well done. Also I managed to visit the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Quantico VA. Not really close to where I am but a great museum. It’s free and open to the public.
Don’t bother :US Army Transportation Museum. Just a bunch of trucks(mostly).
Coolest souvenir : Not really cool but I usually get a shot glass for the bar we are making in the basement.
Worth a splurge : Not splurging, on a budget. But from previous visits I would say eating dinner in one of the Inns at Colonial Williamsburg

Other comments : The National Park portion of Jamestown (not the recreation) has changed quite a bit. I first visited it when I was 12. At that time they thought the settlement was lost to erosion. Now they have the area nicely done showing where the settlement was and the ongoing excavations. There is also a very nice museum dedicated to the archeolgy of the area.

I wish I’d packed a new ankle. I twisted mind yesterday, and going 3rd floor to 1st floor and back really sets it to hurting.

Other comments - of all the bathrooms in this 8-story office building, the men’s room on this floor has to be the dingiest.
