It’s not how the controls were bound that I meant. Basically JC2 has flying on training wheels. If you let go of the controls, you will hover perfectly. If you hit right trigger, you will go up, regardless of your orientation. You won’t skid very much. You’re pretty much just a free-floating camera in air that can move in any direction.
GTA 5, while simple, actually has somewhat real helicopter physics. Hitting right trigger increases your collective, which means your helicopter will move “up” towards wherever the rotor is pointing, not just increase in altitude. Tilting forward increases your forward speed at the cost of altitude, just like a real helicopter. If you turn while moving forward, you’ll skid.
You can’t do any real, fun, dynamic flying in JC2. You basically just control a magical flying free camera that shoots shit. I was hoping they fixed that for JC3, and it functions like any other game that models helicopters.
That’s unfortunate. Flying around in an attack chopper in the Just Cause 3 world would be amazingly fun. But flying around in their freecam-on-training-wheels just isn’t. Flying helicopters is usually my favorite part of games that have them (like battlefield or GTA 5) but I would ditch the helicopters in JC2 the moment I killed the pilot.
I have no idea why they make it so bad when there are perfectly viable ways of doing it as other games have proven.
My WAG is that you’re in a minority when it comes to wanting more realistic flight controls in this specific type of game. The JC series is strictly about doing cinematic action star explosioney type things, which means ease of use (“arcade” control) is more important than realism.
There are plenty of games out there that allow a swap because arcade and simulator flight controls. One imagines it would be fairly easy to allow the option if the developers thought there was a call for it.
I’ve just about given up on getting 100% in JC2. All marked locations are at 100% but there are so many unmarked locations that even a map isn’t much help. I’m also having trouble finding the last few faction items, something like six are left and can’t see any more blue dots.
Just got it (and the PS4). This is a blast, so far I’m more impressed with this than GTAV in terms of the fact it doesn’t take itself so seriously and its just ridiculous fun. I’ve had no issues with it since updating to the latest patch.
Was up 'til 7 on Christmas morning blowing stuff up in JC3. Something like a dozen hours. I’ve liberated all of Insula Fonte and just finished Petra in Insula Dracon.
Anyone still playing this, please post some of the more creative ways you’ve taken out an outpost, town or base.
My modest achievement was liberating an outpost in about 20 seconds by driving through it at 130 km in a dune buggy splatting a few guards on the way, driving off a cliff, jumping out of the car pulling the parachute and destroying all the chaos objects shooting while I chute down, before I hit the ground.
It was only a small outpost, but damn that felt just like it should have been a set piece in a movie.
I love everything about this game, except for the “disable monitors within XXXX seconds missions”. I fail these repeatedly not because of lack of skill but because I get stuck on the overhangs of roofs when trying to fast grapple to the next monitor. And then it gives you a 3 star heat level when you fail and makes you lose the heat before you can try again. These missions really feel like they are just padding to make the game last longer.
Hopefully I can find a mod that makes these less painful, I don’t think I suck, I can do all the other missions easily.
Took out almost all chaos objects on the top half of an oil rig by flying a plane into it. Then had fun taking over the corvette they sent to deal with me.
Sounds like you need to slow down and watch where your grapple is targeting. Sometimes there’s an optimal pattern for taking out monitors, try looking for one when they’re giving you headaches.
Ok fine I figured it out. I was trying to grapple from roof to roof between the monitors. Much faster to grapple, pop the chute then fly over the roofs from monitor to monitor.
Have freed all of Insula Fonte, just stuck on the defector mission. Mario keeps dying.
Was already doing that, what actually helped was going and getting one of the HUMVEE lookalikes when asked to collect a military vehicle rather than just the “technical” pickup with a .50 cal.
Got to say I enjoy the main story missions are one of the weakest parts of this game. After the complete freedom of deciding how you go about freeing provinces, the “on rails” nature of the missions feels really jarring. Especially when they do lame things like not letting you get behind the turret gun on the humvee during the mission.
You’ll soon be tasked with covering two of Dimah’s associates. Do not try to do everything from your sniper’s nest.
In the first mission defending Dimah’s weapon, speed is the key. Stay atop its truck and blast roadblocks with a missile launcher. Get through fast enough and the tanks won’t be able to catch up.
The second mission defending the weapon gave me lots of trouble. Was doing okay until the paratroopers. Detach the minigun onshore closest to Mario and take 'em out before they land. Don’t bother getting to an AA gun for the choppers that follow. Stay away from the shoreline and take out the choppers with your missile launcher then hijack the ships. Once you get back to shore, you only need to hold out until a friendly chopper joins the fight. They’ll mop up the rest for you.
