Just Cause 4

Something like this is present almost right off the bat: there’s a remote hacker who needs Rico to stay near a console or they’ll lose the signal. “Near” is a pretty wide range, though, which enables Rico to dodge grenades. There’s also a nearby weapons crate containing a rocket launcher and a grenade launcher; the former is quite useful for taking out a sniper who shows up. All this kept me so busy that I didn’t really notice the timer.

Went back to the first village, the one visited during the first mission after the intro. I guess there are a couple of chaos targets somewhere; 0% is displayed after the name.

Hm. According to Reddit, the percentage has to do with activities in the nearby vicinity rather than the location itself. This seems to be confirmed by completing a specific activity near that factory raising its percentage to 33.

Okay, yep, stupid timed missions are present. Drown 10 cars in five minutes and they’re scattered all over the damned place? 'Nother game I have to cheat at to finish.

At least they tried to be helpful by having a checkpoint at 5 cars, but they did a half-assed job by not moving the spawn point closer to the rest of the cars. I can’t even get to the other side of the harbor in 2½ minutes!

I really appreciate the updated reviews. It sounds like, as much of a Just Cause fan as I’ve been, JC4 isn’t for me, if for no other reason than at my age doing timed missions is difficult and rage-inducing.

Thanks again.

Don’t get me wrong; the game is fun enough for me to find a “god mode” mod for pausing that timer. I’ve only found one other maddening mission so far, one with a countdown timer where you have to learn the pattern of flying objects and shoot them down with a flak gun. Had some fun using the flak afterwards to blast baddies off a nearby road.

Much less annoying with WeMod freezing the timers.

I wonder what the height limit is. 3000 meters and still climbing…

Passed 4000 meters; there’s a dogfight going on below me.

You’ve all probably seen this before but a fun Penny Arcade comic

Lost my ride around 5500 meters.

If you do get the game at some point, skip the Los Demonios DLC. The crossbow is really nice but the missions are nuts. Like, approaching VVVVVV level nuts; even with God Mode active, those ancient horrors are still really annoying.

Free to play until Monday morning if anyone wants to try it out.
