and were those lights cool or what?! I did a search and found an old thread, but somehow it left me still wondering what they really are.Has anyone in here ever seen the Marfa Lights? What’s your impression of them? What’d ya see? We watched 3 or 4 lights appear and disappear, moving vertically and horizontally for about 45 minutes. We saw a double light appear and seperate more than once. I’d like to hear other accounts, or more like I’m bragging 'cause I got to see them.
Who goes to Marfa? And who goes to Marfa and doesn’t tell me that they’re going? Here in Alpine, I’m a mere 26 miles away (we’re the “big city” in these parts, sad to say) and I’m always game to go check out the Marfa lights. To respond to your post,

Yes, I have seen them. Some of the lights are highway lights from Hwy 67 coming out of Presidio, but they’re easy to tell from the real ones. The real ones are nowhere near the highway, are multi-colored, and behave erratically. They’re there and I’ve seen 'em–bunches of times.

What are they? Who knows. I think in the old thread you found I said everything I know about the various lights hypotheses.
Did you pass through Alpine? And try not to check out the lights without telling me first; I’ll meet you out there next time.
We actually spent a few days in Carlsbad. Went to Roswell and Bottomless Lakes State Park, Sitting Bull Falls, and of course, the Caverns. We decided to head home to Dallas area via Marfa. Sorry to say we did not go on into Alpine. We hooked 'em north to Fort Davis and McDonald’s Observatory. Okay, getting back to the lights. We drove out to the parking area on HWY 67 before dark to get our bearings. Then returned just after dark. We got a flyer in town-probably left over from the Lights Festival-and it said to look SW toward the radio tower. Do you know what tower I’m talking about? The lights we saw didn’t change colors or move about eractically, but they sure didn’t behave like car headlights. Do you think they were? Bummer. Got a question about Alpine. Do you really have the biggest swimming pool in the state? Or am I thinking of else where?
Next time we’re out that way, we’ll warn you.
First, did you see any Golden Arches at the Observatory? It’s McDonald Observatory, not McDonald’s. I’m driving my son to a friend’s birthday party at the Observatory tomorrow; one slip of the tounge like that, and I’ll have a very disappointed toddler on my hands! It’s happened before…
The area around the radio tower is where to look. The lights a bit to the right of the tower are cars on the highway; anything around the tower or to the left are in the desert flats, so you done good. And sometimes they are boring–sorry you caught them on a bad night!
And so far as I know, we don’t have anything that competes for the biggest swimming pool in the state. Rumor has it that at Clayton Williams’ ranch outside of town on the O6 flats he’s got a pool in the shape of Texas, though!
Sitting Bull Falls is a great place, and the Caverns aren’t so bad, either. Hope you enjoyed my neighborhood!
McDonald, McDonald! I stand corrected. Anyway, the world’s largest spring feed pool is found at Balmorhea State Park. That’s close to you, yes? Sorry we didn’t make it there either. It’s listed by Alpine’s Chamber. Thanks for responding to my ot.
