Just got Guitar Hero 3. Frigging HARD!

If it’s any consolation Paint it Black isn’t very fun to play. Very boring.

I’ve been cruising along ok but the boss battles make me feel like an idiot. I can’t get anywhere with them I’m not even sure I really undertstand them. None of my attacks ever seem to have any effect. I always get to sudden death and then just have to watch while Morello plays forever until he gets that death drain thing. What am I doing wrong? I’ve tried saving up all my attacks until that long sudden death thing but even that isn’t enough. How do you beat Morello?

I’ve heard of others having a tough time with these boss fights. I’m not sure what the trick is because I beat Morello in less than a minute some how. I hit him with some attack and he died like 5 seconds later (on hard that is). Same for Slash.

Maybe I got lucky and just tripped into hitting the right attacks at the right time or something.

Best tip I can give is to use save the attack until it’s his turn to shred. Don’t just activate it as soon as you get it. Wait till he’s got a pile of notes coming down the board then turn it on. The whammy one kills them real quick from what I hear.

The bosses don’t seem to be able to handle the Whammy attack. If you can luck up and get one of those, save it until the boss has a long stretch of notes and then use it. I beat Slash in under a minute because I got one early.

Thanks. I just beat him by saving up a bunch of stuff and hitting him with it all at once. I was probably making that way harder than I had to. For one thing I thought I had to use the attacks when I was playing. I guess that’s why they weren’t having any effect.

I can’t wait to get to “Cliffs of Dover.” That’s an awesome piece of shred.

The solo on one was mostly triplet patterns from what I remember. I would just hit the first note of the triplet (on the main beat) and then hammer-on or pull-off the other two notes. If you’re at all feel apprehensive about the solo, just save your star power up and you can really slop your way through it.

After playing One, I want to rename my band the Dammit Hammetts

Yipes. Guitar God at the end of the Hard Level is a bitch.

I just creamed my shorts!!

I ran into my first bit of trouble tonight, on the Slipknot song on Expert (tier 7). The fast-changing 3-note chords and rhythm are going to force me to go into practice mode and slow it down until I get it. Or maybe I should go through the game on hard now and practice the songs on tier 7 and 8 first before tackling expert.

This is somewhat reminiscent of GHII, which I thought I was fairly easy until I hit the last couple of tiers. The difficulty curve ramps up real fast at the end.

Most of the covers in the song are really good. However, whoever did ‘Pride and Joy’ blew the shuffle rhythm. It drives too much. Stevie Ray Vaughan’s version is a very laid back shuffle, and this cover doesn’t quite capture it. It changes the feel of the song, and not in a good way. Still fun to play, though. I just wish it was a master track.

I loved the encore in the prison, where the riot breaks out and the band kicks into ‘Welcome to the Jungle’. And the special touch is nice - which I won’t spoil for anyone who hasn’t gotten there yet.

Tom Morello… You know, if I didn’t already want to hit him with a sack of hammers, I’d want to hit him with a sack of hammers. Even on Easy.

Doesn’t help that turning Star Power on is not easy on the Wii. I have a theory that jerking it sideways may work better than jerking it up, but I keep slipping when I try to kick it in.

Went on a tear and made it through a few more tiers after football tonight. I beat Slash on the first try. I just made it through the SRV encore. I’m calling it a night. I’ve found the game alarmingly easy so far. I hope it gets harder in the upper tiers.

Im still waiting for guitar hero to his the wii :frowning:

It did…today.

It did yesterday, or two days ago now (Sunday). That’s what I’ve been playing it on.

Ok - got past One - got a little further on the other -

THe “Hyperscroll” makes so much difference - this time they give you 5 levels of speed to choose from - the 5th one does the most good for spreading them out - but damn - that’s fast.
Oh, and thanks for the advice on the “pinch” and actually strumming up AND down!

Having lots of fun playing the Co-Op bits with SimWife - some of those songs are just that much more fun that way …

The bass parts are much more interesting this time around. My wife is the better player so she always takes lead and I get the bass. In GH2, I had all sorts of problems with bass. It was either mind numbingly boring or I couldn’t hear my part well enough to play it or both. They seem to have mostly fixed this in GH3 and I’m having way more fun now. I just wish they’d uncouple star power and give each of us our own meter.

I finished the songs on hard tonight - still have to beat the Devil in the big showdown, though.

I don’t much care for the last tier of songs. And that Slipknot song is just godawful. Not just that it’s hard, but it’s just an atonal mess of a song. One is a decent song, though. I just get annoyed with the hyperspeed strumming required at the end.

I’ll probably spend most of my repeat playing time down in the lower tiers, where the good songs are. (-:

Oh, I should say that Cliffs of Dover rocks. That and the Metallica song are my favorites from the last tier.

Any help with kicking in Star Power on the Wii? I just can’t do it reliably, and if I can’t do it reliably, there’s no way I’m beating Tom. Not that I’m going to beat him anyhow.
