Just got Guitar Hero 3. Frigging HARD!

Mr. Bunny and I are stuck on the Slayer song on Easy.

Shut up, we’re out of practice!

How fun is it though, that we just got back from Vegoose, plugged this in and got to play along to all these songs that we just saw performed live the nights before?! “Bulls on Parade”, “3’s and 7’s”, “Knights of Cydonia”. All were fantastic live.

Do you have another remote you can try? I haven’t had any problems at all.

I’m loving the game, especially online. I wish it looked a little better though. I knew going in that the Wii version wouldn’t look as good as the other two, but I didn’t think it would be this bad, so I hit gametrailers.com to see if the others were way better. Sadly, no.

When I first started searching for comparison clips I found an HD video of the 360 version on gametrailers.com and proceeded to watch and enjoy. As the clip played I started feeling the pangs of remorse set in, because the 360 version looked a million times better than what I was seeing in my living room. Then I realized: The clip I was watching was from Guitar Hero II.

Once I found clips from GH3, I realized we’re all pretty much in the same boat aside from some minor details. The easiest way to put it: The Wii version looks like ass and the other two look like high-definition ass. I hope they don’t plan on riding this engine for two more games like Harmonix did cause it really looks horrible.

Still, the game is excellent, especially considering it’s pretty much a first effort from the skater punks at Neversoft. Anyone link up their profiles on guitarhero.com yet? Here’s mine:

Is anyone playing this on PS2? I want to pick it up but I’ve heard reports that the PS2 wireless guitar doesn’t work very well. If that’s the case I may pick up the non-bundled game and an old wired guitar.

I’m playing it on PS2 with a wireless and I haven’t had any problems at all. Maybe the new wirelesses have problems (I don’t know) but my old GH2 rig still works just fine.

Ok I’m getting pissed off at this lou battle on hard now. I’m fine with the whole boss battle thing, but it’s fucked up that he gets 3 times more attack oppurtunities than you do. When he hits the lefty flip you may as well reset. Double notes is bad too. I’m lucky to get one attack on him before I die.

This definitely needs tweaking thats for sure.

I also think its horse shit that your chance at hitting the attack notes is timed perfectly to happen during his attacks, so if you don’t magically hit the right notes you never get to attack.

We are playing on PS2 with two different wireless guitars, and have not had any problems.

Let me just continue my gripe after my first hour of trying to beat this asshole. I hate how they dont even throw attackes in until like 2 minutes into the song so you waste all kinds of time trying to get back to the point where you can even attempt to beat lou. I’ve decided that I must store all my attacks and use them at once but I can only make it to two attacks (at best) before he kills me.

I picked it up for the Wii today and have been having lots of fun with it.

I was a little disappointed with a couple of songs that were big draws for me. The new version of Anarchy in the UK isn’t terrible, but John Lydon seems to have phoned it in. His vocal performances are one of the things I love about the Sex Pistols.
The cover of She Bangs the Drums isn’t very good. I love the original and wish they’d been able to use that. It’s still fun to play though.

I agree with you on the new Sex Pistols version. It’s downright boring. Bad bad bad. I could almost hear John Lydon counting the money as he’s singing it. As for She Bangs the Drums, I don’t think it’s terrible. Mind you, I don’t think it’s terribly good either (it’s one of my all time favorite songs), but it seems very out of place in a Guitar Hero game, given that it’s much of a guitar song.

I can’t beat any of the songs on the last tier. :frowning: Can’t get more than about 20 seconds into any of them. Though i tore all the other tiers a new bunghole. I’m just a Guitar Sidekick i guess.

Well, I am now stuck on beshatted Tom Morello on Medium (though fortunately, the game allows you to “wuss out” and proceed without beating him, which is nice). I tried about 20 times yesterday - tried saving my attacks (which doesn’t really work, as it will only allow me to save THREE, dammit), tried using them when I got them, etc. etc. Can. Not. DO IT.

Help?

You have to use all the attacks at once-- just bam bam bam without much time in between. Do it when he has a lot of notes coming up, and hopefully make one of them a whammy bar attack. You shouldn’t need more than three. I beat him on medium with only two.

Save up your attacks. Do not use them when you get them. Wherever the part of the Morello song comes where he has a flurry of notes, use two attacks (or possibly even all three) at once. This should kill him very quickly.

I finally beat Lou on hard and am now to tier 8 on expert. I can’t beat any of those songs. I come close on One but otherwise they are all too hard for me. What a major jump in difficulty from tier 7 to tier 8.

All in all I like GH3 better than GH2 and about equal to GH1. The worst sone on here is by far the Slipknot song only because the expert version seems arbitrairily difficult for no real reason.

Cliff of Dover is tough on expert for sure though.

I just can’t do the opening of CoD. When i do practice mode, i do good for the rest of the song, but that intro just ruins it for me.

And ditto the difficulty jump from tier 7 to 8 in expert.

I hate, hate, hate that Slipknot song. It’s keeping me from getting to expert tier 8. I’ve actually 5*'d a couple of songs on tier 7, but that slipknot song is killing my hands. My biggest problem is simply that I get too much joint pain in my wrists and fingers from all the 3-note chord changes, and by the time I get to the end I just keep missing the slides up and down of those ridiculouse 3-note chords. I’ve failed the song about 10 times now - half of them at 95% or greater. Supremely frustrating.

After I beat that song, I will never play it again. (oh, who am I kidding - I’ll probably play it to try to increase my career score, but I’ll hate every minute of it).

After playing through the career mode (on medium) I wish I could rename my band to Green Angels.
I don’t like the last tier, except I found Cliffs of Dover to be a pleasant surprise (I’d never heard of it before). It was nice to get an upbeat melodic song in the middle of all the others. It would have been cool if all the songs in the Hell tier were like that.

I’m playing on hard, just finished Bulls on Parade. I’m 3-starring almost all of them, just one 5-star so far.

I wonder if they told him to keep his singing subdued to not get in the way of the guitar. It’s not like he can’t sing with energy anymore.

Frickin Blood Rayne - stupid noisy song - still cant get past 37% on Hard - keeping me from successfully beating up on Lou.

&!@!!&**!!$

Thanks for the tips, all - thought I had tried that but apparently I was waiting too long between attacks or something. Beat him no problem. Funny how long I spent trying to beat Morello, and Slash was no problem whatsoever.

Now I’m stuck on grumble grumble “Knights of Cydonia”. They booed me off stage even right after using my Star Power. 'Course, I was a little in my cups at that point, so I could have been playing just that badly…

It’s not even just the singing. The whole production sounds so, I don’t know, “Starbuck’s” for lack of a better word. The guitar sound, the the paint-by-numbers guitar solo, the drumming–it’s as if the entire song were computer generated. It’s actually really quite stunning how they could suck all the soul out of a song. It’s up there with Madonna’s version of “American Pie” or Phil Collins’ version of “True Colors.” The scary thing, it’s not even a cover.
