It took about 15 minutes. A gal came to my workstation and moved my monitors and lowered the desk they set on, and tilted my keyboard platform a bit. I feel similar to when somebody else drives my car, and the seat isn’t adjusted how it normally is. I’ve been recommended a new, bigger keyboard and mouse, since the standard ones are too small for my hands. I’ve also been recommended a better chair, so here’s to hoping the boss will spring for one! All in all it was very pleasant, and everybody in our building will be having one done by the end of the week. Hopefully, the tightness I’ve been having in my neck and shoulders will only be attributed to rugby in the future, instead of from being a bit cramped with my current set up.
Nifty.
I had a doctor-ordered ergo evaluation in my old job. As I am particularly small, they ended up having to special order all kinds of stuff – new chair, new mouse, new keyboard, better keyboard tray (mine has to tilt backwards so “q” is lower than “z”), and then even made my mouse pad a different height.
The way to achieve this was not to talk with HR – they couldn’t have given two shits about my doctor-ordered ergo evaluation – but rather to speak with someone in Loss Prevention, who immediately understood that the consequence of not getting my adjustment was going on disability – and moved promptly to secure me an onsite Occupational Therapist to take care of the situation.
Don’t forget your stretches!
