I noticed a lump on my tongue about a month ago. The specialist thought it was likely a Pyogenic granuloma, which sounds far more scary that it is – basically just a benign group of capillaries that raises a lump.
So today the doctor cut it out. Pretty quick – it took only about ten minutes. They numbed my tongue, removed it, and cauterized the wound.
They’ll be doing a biopsy, but it’s unlikely to be anything dangerous.
My tongue hurt when the numbness wore off, but swigging ice water cut the pain. I took some Tylenol, but right now it feels sore, but not painful. I’ve been eating soft food for now.
Good luck, a friend of mine had a similar thing happen [but his turned out to be some form of cancer, so he ended up with the whole chemo and radiation thing, but it worked and he is now 2 years into his 5 years]
I hope it turns out to be nothing except some pissed off capillaries and a peeved taste bud or two [I get an occasional inflamed taste bud, very tiny and very painful] {{{hugs}}}
My first ‘job’ in high school was as a ski & binding tech at a ski shop. One of my coworkers was skiing moguls. He his his jaw with his knee, and unfortunately he was sticking his tongue out. He bit all the way through it.
I had the same thing many years ago. I coughed some blood and freaked out. Apparently it had gotten large enough that bruised and the bruise bled. They did an MRI, then removed it and it came back benign.
I only knew the Japanese word for it, so I learned something today.
