Just having a website means getting spam

What really pisses me off is how I have a website and I get spam emails from people I’ve never heard of. I’ve never visited their website. All these spam emails are for get rich schemes, scams and porno sites.

I DON’T CARE about get rich schemes and I don’t hang around porno sites.

Am I not the only one who has a website and get spammed ? I’m interested in knowing if anyone has a website and they get spammed too.

1)I can ignore these spams and just delete them. (This is a waste of my valuable time having to sort through the good emails and the garbage emails)
2)I can report them to abuse@_____.com but nothing can be done anyway. (Most of the spam emails don’t even have the IP numbers, so if there is no IP number, then the ISP can do nothing)
3)I can spam them back but why bother sinking to their level.

Do these people who spam NOT have a life ? I mean if they went through all that trouble to get my website email, they must have awful a lot of time on their hands.

It may not be just the fact that you have a website. I get spam because I have an eBay account. My email is also publicly accessible on this board. Anyone can write a script to get a bunch of addresses from either. If it gets to be too much I’ll open a different mail.com account.

The only way to not get spam is to not have an email address.

I can spot spam by the subject (and sender usually), so I just delete during my regular reading of my email. It’s really not that much of a waste of time to press one key.

It’s my friends that forward me spam that I get pissed about, since I usually open and read things from them. ARRRGHH!! Fucking donkey raping shit eaters. (So I’m not original, YCJSI) Man, some people have no clue.

I don’t have a personal Web site, but sure, I get spam. I get some spam from people who’ve got my email address from somewhere online (it’s available in some places). I get even more from people using random email address generators and thus bulk mailing everyone in a given domain. (I now have an account in a well-known national ISP now; sometimes I miss my local smaller domain that no one had ever heard of, as my spam level has skyrocketed since I switched.)

So, yes, I get spam, and it’s not because I have a personal Web site, it’s because I have an email address. I mostly just delete them (it doesn’t take that long–I can tell that an email with a header like TEEN XXX SQUIRREL-ON-SQUIRREL ACTION!!! probably isn’t something I want to read so I just hit the delete key). If I’m in a pissy mood, then I email abuse@whatever.com. But as c_goat said, it annoys me more when friends pass on the latest hysterically funny forward.

It may take little or no effort to get your email address. They may not even know that it’s your address, if they’re using a bulk address generator. It’s roughly equivalent to telemarketers who used the automatic dialers.

And yet you, crystaljones, have a link on your site to splatternet. I think you’re begging for spam if you provide an arena for shit like that.

Go away until you have a valid complaint. This one is pathetic.

I hadn’t noticed before that you have your Web site URL in your .sig file. And I just checked your profile–yup, you’re freely emailable. If “those people who spam” were indeed collecting email addresses by hand, then you’d be making it as easy as possible.

If deleting unsolicited email is such a bother, crystaljones, then you could start by not sharing your contact information with the 11,000 registered members of this board.
