Oh, just go to www.allmusic.com and punch “Superman” into the song search. There are hundreds, I’ll bet.
Matchbox 20’s song “Real World” doesn’t mention Superman by name, but it’s pretty obvious they’re talking about him (there’s a line about getting powers from the yellow sun during the “superhero” stanza, which is pretty much an exclusively Superman schtick).
All these years, I had no idea that’s what he was saying.
A pretty cool link.
I don’t have anything to add – I just thought my sig would be somewhat relevant.
Nothing to add, but I wonder if any of these songs make a reference to the Nietzschien superman rather than the comic book hero?
If one does, I imagine it might be a heavy metal tune.
Unwritten Law - “Superman”
How about David Bowie’s “The Supermen”?
To wit:
Mild mannered supermen are held in kryptonite,
And the wise and foolish virgins giggle with their bodies glowing
Bright.
also,
Genesis - Land of Confusion:
*Ooh Superman where are you now
When everything’s gone wrong somehow
The men of steel, the men of power
Are losing control by the hour.

Sugar Hill Gang-- Rapper’s Delight. Lois Lane says:
You can be my boyfriend, sure you can
Just let me quit my boyfriend called Superman
He’s a fairy, do you suppose?
Flying through the air with pantyhose.
He may be very sexy or even cute
But he looks like a sucker in a blue and red suit.
Early 80s rap “Jam On It” had a breakdance-off between the singer and Superman.
Oh, my God! I remember that song, but I have no idea who sang it.
Superman by Celi Bee & The Buzzy Bunch. I was a disco baby.
In spite of its title, “Waitin’ for a Superman” is about the superhero, in my opinion.
Also, the theme song from “Scrubs.”
Oh and btw LiveOnAPlane, you are now on my list. Do you know that people in the workplace look at you as if you are insane if you go around singing Supermanmanmanmanman, I love you Supermanmanmanmanman. Do it to me Supermanmanmanmanman. . .. Even if you do it to yourself, under your breath, without conscious knowledge.
Worst. Earworm. EVER!
One of my all-time favorite songs!
There ya go pickin’ on me again
Pushin’ me to the very end
Tellin’ me to go move another mountain
Well, just 'cause you can walk on water
That ain’t no sign that I can
Ya know your mamma should have named you Superman.
Yes. You are right. They do.
But at least now, thanks to you, I know who sang it and can find the rest of the lyrics! Thanks!
