Just @#!*-ing Google It!

Well I’ll be damned Number, damned if it ain’t so. I originally found this place from a Google search and used it a number of times to find stuff at the SDMB. I imagine people were using Google to find quotes that they’d cite without permission from the Reader. That’d explain shutting down the search ability here to guests as well. Must’ve been part of the upgrade last Spring. I learn something everyday here if I try hard enough.
I guess I’m just hacking away at my own ignorance. That’s a good thing!

Ditto what Sam said. “If you don’t like a question, don’t answer it.”
Always good advice that is.

I was in another thread that asked how people found the boards. It prompted me to recall that I did in fact use a different search engine to get here, not Google. It still finds posts made to these boards.

I’m glad more folks don’t use Google to find their answers! I’ll be browsing GQ, and read a question that makes me think “hmmm, I should read this thread; I’d like to know what the answer to this question is, even though I’d have never thought to ask”. Plus, as others have pointed out, I like the exchange of ideas that accompanies the answers. I mean, let’s face it, if Cecil just gave flat-out factual answers to the questions folks send him, we wouldn’t love him so much. He gives facts and pontificates on the answers. Google will not give you that!

Well I’ve hardly ever ventured into GQ, but I’d a darn sight rather have one of our dopers with their clever ways of putting things answer a Q for me than search engines.

And as Sam said “so what?, what’s it to ya”??? don’t like it, don’t read them, sheesh, how hard is that?
