After some time getting by on an out of date version. Needless to say, my first scan detected all manner of spyware. Some of which cannot be deleted, cleaned or quarintined. So what should i do? I want rid of these programs, but if the virus scan wont do anything, what are my options?
Do you also have Adaware & Spybot (two of the popular utilities)? Try running those and see what it can do.
You should be able to start the computer in the safe mode and delete them manually.
Moderator clears throat: I think this will get better responses in GQ rather than in Cafe Society, and I’m moving it theretofore.
Since you asked, many posters have found McAfee’s system programs systems-hogging bloatware that often foul up PCs more than they help. I second the recommendation of AdAware and Spybot, plus Grisoft’s free AVG. Of course, your desktop may have the processing power to compensate for McAfee’s insatiable appetite, but the the best day my PC ever saw was when I swore off McAfee products. Of course, McAfee’s software might have dramatically improved since last year and the company does have many enthusiastic supporters. YMMV.
Uninstall McAfee for one. What a POS!
You can try the other spyware removers out there. I also like Microsoft’s Antispyware product.
One thing you can do is to try the others and see what happens. If they can’t help, try doing a scan in Safe Mode. (To get to Safe Mode, reboot your PC and press the F8 key a few times just before the Windows splash screen appears).
For my AV needs, I prefer Kaspersky AV. Best AV there is, bar none.
