Just saw Big Fish - Where was the Yes music?

The TV ads for the film Big Fish had snibbets of the song “I’ve Seen All Good People” by Yes. My GF and I are big Yes fans so we were anticipating how it would show up in the soundtrack, given the whimsical fantasy nature of the film. There were snibbets of Buddy Holly and the Allman Brothers, and towards the end we figured Yes would show up during the closing credits (which is lame enough IMO), but nothing! It’s arguable that the music in the ad influenced our descision to rent it, so that’s tantamont to false advertising (it’s a wonderful flick nonetheless, so I still recommend it). They pulled the same crap with Thin Lizzy’s “The Boys are Back in Town” in the ad for Toy Story 2. What gives?

Trailers very often use music that’s not in the trailer. Sometimes, they’ll use music from another movie’s score (I’ve heard *Last of the Mohicans * on different trailers, *Titanic * music, etc.).

You could also hear one of the themes from “Requiem for a Dream” in the “LOTR: The Two Towers” trailers.

“I’ve Seen All Good People” was notably used in Almost Famous (recently). I guess they were trying to aim at the same audience.

and how many times have we heard “O Fortuna” from CARMINA BURANA used as movie ad music?

I notice also that some high-budget horror film ads have used BRAM STOKER’S DRACULA music

The music for Stargate SG-1 is currently being used in the trailer for Sky Captain. Took me a couple of beats to recognize it.

I’m disappointed, but not surprised, that the Yes music was not in the movie. I should know better, but that was one aspect that made the movie appealing (but thankfully not the only one).

JOhn.

The recent “Mr. Deeds” had a snippet of ISAGP too: as the helicopter is flying him into Manhatten.

During all the tv ads I’ve seen for Big Fish, the riff from Peter Gabriel’s “Salisbury Hill” is playing. I wonder if the music is changed for different markets.

Y’see, I was all set to point out that the song was in two movies starring Billy Crudup.

There are sometimes scenes in the trailer that are not in the final movie.
