DAMN, I’M OLD!
Ooooh! Choose-Your-Own-Adventure! Did you have the one about the haunted house (or maybe it was the time-travel cave), that had the one page with the nightmare-fuel drawing of an evil old lady in a rocking chair holding a fireman’s axe?
Atari…god. We had a 2600. I remember playing Frogger, Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Kaboom! (that damn clown!), Pitfall (god, we spent HOURS playing that…). I remember the pointless and frustrating gameplay of the E.T. tie-in, and the just plain pointless and confusing gameplay of Atari’s attempt at Epic Fantasy (some kind of four-cartridge saga about the elements and swords which made no sense whatsoever if you weren’t reading the related comic book series which you had to buy separately (I think), and it was never finished).
When I was a kid, I never believed Pitfall! had an actual ending or that it looped around. It just seemed to big to actually finish.
Thanks for the inspiration, I found a youtube link to someone playing Parsec on a ti994a!
I had almost everyone of the Choose your own Adventure books. Then I gave them away. I think I had about 100 of them and I really enjoyed reading them from elementary through junior high.
