I’m growing a few small Miracle Fruit bushes in my greenhouse. Pacific Coast Tropicals will send you a good size, flower bearing, ready to fruit bush.
Another great food to try is cherry tomatoes, the real small tomatoes you see in a market. (I’m in California and that’s what we call them. Maybe they are called something else where you live.)
Any way after eating the pulp from a miracle berry, the tomatoes taste like huge sweet grapes!
After reading about miracle fruit on the boards (and elsewhere), I bought some through the UK site. The crystals are here, but I haven’t had a chance to try them. They are a bit expensive for everyday use, but I figured it’d be a nice treat that’s not at all bad for me! I’ll report back once I have a chance to try it.
Now here I’d figure you’d be growing mangosteen or acai fruit Do you have a web link for the nursery you mentioned? I suppose shipping live, fruit bearing plants out of the country is probably not gonna happen though.
How do you know it’s not bad for you? Apologies for being pedantic, but the only things I’ve seen written about “miracle fruit” is the writeups on vendor’s sites and wikipedia, which I wouldn’t really consider entirely trustworthy sources.
Ah Ha! I ordered some freeze dried from the UK about a month ago, and received it about two weeks ago. I had the same experience as you, especially with lemon.
I tried straight sugar and it tasted like nothing, just granules.
I just happened to grab it as a beverage in our cafeteria this morning. It is the first time I’ve tried it. Anywho, it is rich in anti-oxidants, which is what caught my eye. I imagine that many anti-oxidant rich foods might be more appealing if they were less bitter.
I got mine from the UK place a few weeks ago and meant to write something up but I just didn’t.
I really loved the Miracle Fruit with grapefruit. They tasted like very naturally sweet oranges. I didn’t have any lemons or limes, but I tried drinking straight lemon and lime juice, which tasted pretty much like sweetened lemonade/limeade. The lime was a bit tarter than I expected (given that descriptions were “it tastes like candy.”) Sugar just tasted like granules. I meant to try it with some wine also but forgot. I might do that this weekend.
