Oh come on, ATMB is where people come to ask for new rules, there are several up already.
And this isnt quite a new rule, we already have a rule about blank links with no explanation.
An embedded image isn’t a link, though.
I’m not wild about them, but they don’t bother me. Sometimes they’re done in a very effective way. The obscure ones that have to be explained are kind of questionable. It’s easy for the person posting it to think it’s less obscure than it is.
The picture is the explanation. It’s all right there presented to you.
This is not a visual representation of an aural expression . . . or a pipe for that matter.
But it is often obscure.
If I’m worried that a picture I post might be obscure, I either put some text with it, or look for a gif that has words on it.
It’s no worse or different than posting a non sequitur bit of text that doesn’t make sense, and that happens too. That doesn’t mean we should ban text-only replies.
“Being obscure” isn’t really against the board rules.
Who has the time to type 1,000 words?
I get it, another rule? Okay, but we have “we need a rule against using MAGAt” “We need a rule against accusing a group of malice”. “We need a rule against 'People are saying” and so forth.
So I concede. It wasnt a very good idea.
