She has run for President twice and did badly both times. The Democratic Party will run a nomination campaign, and if she contests it, she will lose badly.
Not really. The first time was a trial run, she withdrew before a single vote was cast in any primary- and some pundits said she was really running for Veep- which she succeeded. The 2nd time she was pulled in as a late replacement and the election was close.
Swing voters are weird.
We (democrats) need them.
On paper I can see where including Cheney was a good idea, but not in the real world.
And as for voters not caring-well, they say that with great power, comes great responsibility. If many voters aren’t willing to take on the responsibility of educating themselves about issues apart from MAGA propaganda, maybe they shouldn’t have the power to vote? Just my tired and discouraged thoughts.
Fully agree. I don’t know which political advisor suggested this…Cheney is intensely hated on the republican side. Even Never Trumpers don’t like her.
In hindsight perhaps courting Nikki Haley would have been better for pulling in the Never Trump voters on the republican side to vote democrat than Liz Cheney.
Nikki Haley caved and endorsed Trump. I think Cheney was a useful campaign surrogate for a very specific subgroup of voters, but they should have tried to minimize her exposure to normal Democratic-leaning voters.
I agree. Cheney should not have been accorded vip treatment and given so much exposure. I doubt if she bought any votes to Kamala…on balance she may have flipped some votes to Trump or made a few voters skip the polls than vote for Kamala.
She was in the debates. Spent a lot of money. “The voters were so uninterested in her candidacy that she didn’t make it to the primaries” is not a good sign.
Look, she’s a decent person and would have made a better President than Trump, but there is clearly no appetite amongst the American people for Kamala Harris to be the President. If she runs in 2028 she will be humiliated in the primaries. It would be a waste of her time.
Why would that be? She’s the perfect Never Trump Republican.
Early debates. Before any primaries- and generally a LOT of candidates drop out then. Showing you have the smarts to see it is gonna be Joe Biden or maybe Sanders and positioning yourself to be Bidens veep shows great political tactics and smarts.
Then I guess Barack Obama was kinda dumb in 2007, because he saw it was gonna be Hillary Clinton and yet he still tried to win.
I’ve been a supporter of Kamala for years. I’d love for her to be president because I think she’s better than most other Democratic contenders. But she had her shot and the bench is deep. It’s someone else’s turn next.
Here’s what the DNC should do. Poll the Dems in the swing states that didn’t vote and ask, “Why didn’t you vote for Kamala?” Use that data to inform the party platform.
That presumes that they’ll be honest about their reasons, and that if they are honest that the reason has something to do with reality. The people who voted agaisnt her out of racism and misogyny probably won’t admit it, and the people who believed Republican propaganda won’t be persuaded by a party platform they’ll never actually hear about.
The answers will be “Because she was responsible for the open border and inflation”. Which won’t tell you much because both those claims are false.
(high border crossings can be laid on Biden, at least a little, although he also got crossings back down again later)
This is a great idea and I hope the democratic party is doing this.
I think all polling has to navigate this issue of truthful responses or false answers. I hope there is some way the pollsters are working around this to get the ultimate picture right.
They are doing polling, certainly.
I feel one reason she lost was that she wasn’t able to handle attacks like these. Mudslinging is part of politics these days. She needed to be able to flip the script on these kinds of attacks and figure out ways to come out on top. It seemed like she was flustered by these attacks and didn’t really address them. Even if the attacks were total nonsense, she needed to figure out a way to tamp down the chatter. It seemed like these attacks just landed on her and she didn’t fight them.
