I am very pessimistic. I think the US is on a one-way trip to tyranny, and eventually self-inflicted total collapse.
That’s really outside the scope of this thread. What would it matter who I think should’ve run in 2024? Given that they didn’t hold a real primary, and Biden’s decline was hidden until very late in the game, going with Harris was probably the right choice - especially if legally she was the only one who could access the campaign funds and keep her name on the ballot in all states. I guess they could’ve tried to ride Biden into the election – and who knows, it’s possible he would’ve won. Before the election I would’ve said no, but now I think the American people are even shittier than I thought and maybe that would’ve been the way to go.
But the subject of the thread is whether we should deliberately pick Harris as our best candidate rather than the only choice in an emergency and that seems like a clear and obvious no.
Inappropriate? No. I never said that.
Should you be ashamed? I don’t know if I can answer that in this forum.
Is your position racist and misogynist? yes.
Did you make a lot of claims without providing cites? yes
Did you say Miller was straw manning? yes
Was he straw manning? no
Did you express a desire to end your discussion with him? yes
Did Milller pwn you? I would say definitely.
I never said you did anything inappropriate or violated any rules. I did say that you lost a debate quite badly. Rather than just departing the thread and hoping it would be forgotten, you started a thread drawing attention to it. Now, do you understand?
No, given that I’m still in this thread arguing my point. Your idea that I know I’ve been soundly defeated and tried to crawl away and hope no one noticed is obviously false, and to be honest, if you’re going to continue down this line, just pit me instead. This aside is adding nothing to the discussion.
And I think “If not Harris, then who?” is a perfectly fine point to bring up in this thread, although I understand why there is a solid reluctance to actually answer this question from those who say it should have been somebody else.
I highly doubt Biden would have won. I feel he would have done much worse than Kamala. He is a good man but we have all seen he is very frail and could not have campaigned hard.
Mainstream media including NYTimes went totally against Biden after the debate, there was very little possibility he could have recovered effectively after the debate disaster.
Kindly do not put words in my mouth. I never said any of that. You did NOT try to crawl away and hope no one noticed. I never said you did. I did say that is what you should have done. Then, nobody would have noticed or remembered. Instead, you started an ATMB thread drawing more attention to the debate and continue to post in the thread.

I’m going to sleep now. I shall resume surfing the web in the morning
Moderating:
This is all getting entirely too personal and off topic. I’m glad there is some recognition that is long past time to drop this whole side show.
In case it wasn’t clear, to all engaging in this back and forth, let it go or take it to the Pit.
I’m not sure there was anyone in 2024 that could’ve pulled it off. And I talked about the “why” earlier in the thread, which you hit a similar theme in this post. Republicans have a huge advantage in generating and disseminating propaganda. There are red states all over that country where Dems aren’t even the slightest bit competitive. And in Blue states, the advantage isn’t as strong for the Dems. The Democrats need to build up the party at local and state levels during the next few years, and they need to build up a propaganda arm - except spewing and flooding the zone with truth instead of lies. Currently, half the country only hears Dems views filtered by groups that hate Dems (Fox, Newsmax, Twitter, other social media, mailers, what they hear in some churches)…That has to be reversed. We need to talk directly to voters all over this country, and not filtered by right-wing bullshit artists.
Anyway, I don’t think there was a magical candidate in 2024 that could overcome all of that and defeat Trump.
Why? We’re talking about Kamala running in 2028, but part of that is understanding what kind of environment we were dealing with in 2024, and other potential choices. It’s not outside the scope of the thread at all. I totally disagree here.
Not related to my OP, but just asking anyway.
I am relatively new here…just wanted to know if it is polite and ok to refer to democrats as dems and republicans as reps or pubs(seen some posters here do that and I am not sure as I am not an american citizen though I’ve visited usa several times).
Thanks in advance and best regards.
It’s fine to refer to Democrats and Republicans in the ways you suggest. People here refer to them in much more derogatory terms than that and while we discourage this, it’s not against the rules.
Thank you very much for the prompt clarification.
Fair enough. I should’ve said that it’s outside the scope of the argument I’m making. I have no idea who might be in the running in 4 years – that’s a very far distance to predict what’s going to be happening in politics, and I’m not going to spend much energy speculating or arguing about it. To be honest, I’m pretty sure there’s not going to be a real election in 2028 anyway, so it’ll all end up being a moot point.
With the understanding, of course that the term “dems” for Democrats is used much more often than “reps” or “pubs” is used for Republicans.
In my ignorance I didn’t want to sound derogatory (inadvertently) to democrats or republicans. That was the reason for my query.
Understood.
It’s a weird issue, because I can see Beef’s argument (I think) from two sides. If I have two candidates, and polling and experience tells me that the white guy is gonna do better, why run anyone else? But on the other hand, if I’m not a white guy, why should I keep supporting people who don’t have my background?
What the heck is this about?
Because at this point it’s time to give up any hope for things getting better in our lifetimes, and just concentrate on staying alive. Vote for the side that doesn’t want to see people like you rounded up and killed. Maybe then in a few generations society will manage to return to the level of social progress it has today out of the abyss it’s decided to step into.
First, I note that you have not responded to any of these points
I believe in always letting a poster know when I have started a Pit thread about them. SenorBeef And The Streissand Effect
I absolutely believe Harris should run in ‘28. There was a decided shift to pro-right wing populism amongst the US electorate not a lot different than much of the western world. Kind of reminds me of 1980. But Hopefully 2028 wouldn’t become a 1984.
