Taliban leader Mullah Omar will begin surrendering Kandahar on Friday, a Taliban official tells CNN.
Now what?
The various factions have a tentative agreement on gov’t, but the devil is in the details, and those haven’t been worked out yet. Pakistan is making strong moves to recruit Pashtun tribal leaders, the NA is in possesion of about 50-60% of the rest of Afganistan, the old King is out of the picture, Rabbanni appears to have been sidelined, and the proposed interm gov’t includes women in high places.
Predictions on how this plays out?
Will we have a moderate and effective gov’t? A moderate and ineffective one? A radical or harshly traditional gov’t? Will Afganistan become Balkanized? Local rulers paying lip-service to a central gov’t? More anarchy and fighting? Or some combination of all the above?
What will become of the foreign Taliban and al Queda fighters?
[sub]Oh, and BTW: Will we ever find that SOB, Bin Laden?[/sub]
