I weep for people who can’t tell obvious religious rationalizations and wackjobbery from fact.
What do you mean by this, exactly?
My understanding is that he’s calling Trinitarians wackjobs/rationalizers. What that means in the larger context of this discussion, I have no idea. We need a “shrug” smiley.
YOu’re probably right. I’m just in a very bad mood.
I most likely should not have started this thread.
I mean by this, exactly, that the belief you described, which I’m not necessarily saying belongs to you, is so obviously manufactured and rationalized and cobbled together from horseshit and doublespeak that it has no practical meaning, and anyone who believes in the literal reality of such gobbledygook is a chump and a sucker who shouldn’t be allowed outdoors unsupervised.
I mean, seriously. Just look at it.
I contend that the appearance of Kanicbird immediately diminishes the quality of any thread.
If I am wrong and someone can show me an example where this tool made an intelligent contribution to a discussion I will withdraw my claim.
kanicbird, everything you said in your last post is moronic.
Sorry, but I have a busy afternoon ahead – I thought I’d beat the rush.
By that standard, anyone who believes the Bible has some sort of value as a moral guide (or anything other than as an excellent work of fiction or paperweight or hotel nightstand decoration) is a chump and a sucker.
Contending that the Bible is allegorical is itself a rationalization.
What’s wrong with Trinidad? It’s the Toboggans that are wack jobs.
Actually, wouldn’t they be snow jobs?
You’re thinking of snowballing. Although I’m not sure how it fits in here.
According to Terry Prattchet, the world was created in a mere instant, neither seven days, nor millions and millions of years.
The different strata and the fossilized bones found in them are faked by the Creator (who is a different entity from God or Gods) just to have fun with modern day geologists and paleontologists.
Is that the truth?
Because reading this stuff is the equivalent of being repeatedly snowballed on the street by strangers.
Are you really really really sure of that?
Or worse: Your argument is totally shot to hell if Kanicbird agrees with you.
(Panache’s Law)
It can’t discover the truth of ANY analytic claim, of which there are practically an infinite number. It can’t discover, for example, the truth of whether 1+1=2.
Now before you get all huffy and everything, consider the implication of that claim. It is that 1+1 will always equal 2. You can do an experiment to show that, say, 1 rock plus another rock has equalled 2 rocks. And you can do that experiment many many times, until you have convinced yourself that it is very likely that 1 rock plus another rock will equal 2 rocks if you try again. But that is outside what your experiment has told you. It did not tell you anything about the future; only about what you tried.
I’m sure I don’t have to tell you about the pitfalls and shortcomings of inductive reasoning — that is, reasoning from the particular to the general. Such reasoning can lead to conclusions like “it is always dangerous to encounter a black man in an alley at night”. What you need to prove the truth of 1+1=2 is a DEductive epistemology. Like math, for instance. Or logic. Those will prove that 1+1 will always equal 2, even in the future.
Science was never intended to discover what is true; it is intended to discover what is false.
Which then follows that science has already proven Christianity (or at least, Young Earth Creationism) to be false, due to the overwhelming evidence of rocks and distant stars which are billions of years old.
However, it’s more accurate to say that scientific laws are merely approximations, and as we obtain better observational tools, these approximations come closer to truth, close enough for us to declare something as “the truth” with 99.999999% accuracy. Therefore, while science cannot prove that kanicbird is a self-deluded idiot, it’s fair to claim that he’s very much approximately a self-deluded idiot. In other words, close enough for government work.
That’s exactly right, and is why I’m an evolutionist.
