I wish there was a way to view only the Karaoke segment. I doubt anyone would catch on to what was happening.

I saw that the other day and thought it was pretty funny. I especially liked Jewel’s reaction to the crowd being totally into her music after all this time. Hmm, now that I think about it, I’m not sure when this took place, but still.
I don’t know if I’d spot a famous singer right away, but that crowd got a treat.
I saw it the other day. I certainly wouldn’t know Jewel, even without the disguise, but I doubt that anyone would have spotted her; at best, they might have thought her voice was just like Jewel’s.

From seeing acts that were just starting out and then seeing acts that have been playing for 20 years, I think the main difference is in stage presence. The comfort level that comes with being in front of large crowds can rarely be faked. It’s the naturalness of making larger gestures or facial expressions. I know I couldn’t have identified her (I would ID her husband long before her) but maybe I would have guessed she was a backup singer for someone. She was comfortable on stage.
I sing 1-2x a week at a karaoke bar that has many semi-pro, amateur, and retired musicians among its patrons. So many singers there are so good already, that it would be difficult to recognize somebody famous unless that singer has a really recognizable face.
Jewel ? Who was that ? And those crackers swaying and wooing…

I wouldn’t recognize Jewel if she came up and introduced herself to me as “Jewel.”

It depends on the singer. Some singer have electrically altered their voices so much or splice so many takes of their own voices together to produce a song, they don’t sound much like their records.
If you listen to singers in concert a lot of them sound bad compared to their records. So I could see how you might not know it.
When I was worked in the Florida Keys, I met MASH* star Gary Burghoff and he was talking to me for awhile and I didn’t realize it was him till after someone said it was him.
I also met Dolly Parton in another hotel I worked at. It was night (I worked overnights) and she came down in a beat up old house coat, that look like she bought it at a thrift store. She was VERY tiny and had flat hair and no breasts. I talked to her for a bit and only recognized her after she started talking fast and her “Southern” accent started to really come out.
So I think Jewel would be very unrecognizeable. If you don’t expect someone and they don’t appear as they do on TV, it’s possible
